A lot of work for preparation of the wheels, but they look great. I am one of the modelers who deliberately kept front main doors open, but indeed, during normal operation they were almost entirely closed and only opened when the gear was retracted or lowered.
Looking forward to any details that the model provides for the landing gear! Cheers, Erik |

@ Isaac – well, my taste for the landing gear doors is very much the same as Erik’s. You may find it illogical to open the doors and close the canopy. I have no good answer to that remark…
@ Erik – The main landing gear has a huge quantity of small parts! I’ll get there. Regarding the nose gear, today’s post is about it @ Dje – I built GPM’s MiG-21, too. The paper is different, not as thick, much more shinny and equally unforgiving. The nose gear has many small parts and I’m not really sure to have assembled them correctly. The instruction drawings are well made but the parts identification is not as good as I would desire. I applied the usual tricks to hide the wire that gives strength to this small assembly. |

Your work is so clean, it's really impressive !
I really like the way you're doing your wheels, I still hasn't figured out how you do them. Looks like rolled paper but I'm not sure Best regards, Ronan

@ Ronan - thanks Yes, I use rolled paper. Take a look at my thread about the Vought Vindicator. I elaborate a bit about the method there.
As you can see in the first picture, there is an hole formed between card parts to solidly fix the landing gear wire. |

Thank you for the tips ! (and also for the other tips you shared like the rolled parts for the engine or the petal parts )
That's fantastic Really Best regards, Ronan

Beautiful work! When sitting on the landing gear, the rear, smaller doors were fully open, of course. The larger, forward doors were mostly closed. They did droop open very slightly, maybe 4-6 inches or so on the full scale airplane. You have to look closely at the old photos.
There were vary small "fingers" on the forward inside corners. These were intended to snag the raised barrier cable at the end of the runway in the event of an aborted takeoff, brake failure or other runway emergency. |

Thanks for the comments
@ Rangerdog - I guess that the F-104 landing speed was well above the average for aircraft of its time!... I used the plastic canopy provided by GPM. The frames are very thin, which means that the plastic has to be cut precisely. Some thin framing inside the canopy is fragile. Fortunately, the fit proved good. |
