Fiesler Fi-167 (Marek, 1/33rd Scale)

All,

Here is the next victim. As with last year, I'm going to try and get this thing ready for a Spring IPMS show. I'll be adding panel lines, rivet detail, scratch building some things and potentially painting the airframe...or at least dirtying it up a bit with an airbrush, chipping, fading etc. I've always liked this machine for its angular ugliness yet perfect form and function for it's specifications. Nice open cockpit and large windshield that invites you in, a malevolent torpedo slung underneath and a WWII biplane complete with rigging. What could be cooler?

I'm pretty sure no one has ever seen a large scale model of this guy in my neck of the woods! Should be fun. Wish me luck!

Dan

It will be fun to watch this one evolve. I always think of it as a Stuka Biplane.

I'm very intrigued by this one. I've had the 1/48 scale version for years and never built it simply because it's not a scale I work in much, so I'll be interested to hear your take on the model. Best of luck with it!

Thanks, Everybody...I hope to do it justice.

First, I started making the huge torpedo. I started with the prop-end. The basic shape was rolled in a cone with a perfectly fitted rear paper bulk head and a connected strip along the seam. Then the shaft was rolled, prop blades added and then the fins. I added the fin stabilizers from stretched plastic as they looked a tad more "to scale" than the paper I tried to cut.

Here is the basic sequence so far...

So far, so good. I must say that the blades were nice to fit as they had a tiny tick mark that lined up with marks on the shaft so you can't really mess up. Kudos to Marek!

Now I need to roll that huge tube which has, so far, been a challenge to make it nice and smooth. We'll see how she goes.

Thanks for looking,
Dan

Good beginning, Dan! Or, I suppose, end - for the torpedo.
