Roll out day for another of the Navy's state of the art dive bombers, the Vought SB2U-1 Vindicator. The QC team did one final walk around and then pronounced her ready for the Navy. The new aircrew were on hand and quickly flew out to the Sara waiting just offshore. There she landed and everyone came out to look her over. In a few days she was joined by the other aircraft of the Sara's air wing. A visiting Buffalo from the Sara's sister ship the USS Lexington flew in to assist in an airworthiness inspection. All agreed that the Sara was now ready to take on whatever a possible enemy might have to offer.

I have just about decided that the best way to build 1:100 is to start with something bigger and scale it down. Roman Vasyliev of der Kampflieger really did a good job designing this Vindicator in 1:48th. Everything fit very well and all I did was some pre engineering to make butt joint formers, etc. as I went along. The tissue in the wings really added a lot of strength. Another thing I did for the first time was to join the wings at the trailing edge and then when they were dry I just ran a thin bead of glue at the tip of the wings. I then waited until the glue was just right and then gently closed the tips up. As the say in Gay Paree "Violin!" no squished tips! I also got some "Super Markers" that are alcohol based. They don't suck in as much into the paper. The set I had was on sale and had 80 colors so I should be set for a while.

You have produced a nice trio of pre-war yellow wings, Michael. I've always thought that those three "second rate" airplanes were really good looking.

Roman is a very good designer. His models go together well and have beautiful graphics.

Can I presume that the F3B, F4B, F9C, F11C, SBU, and SBC (some of which are already available in 1/100) are waiting in the wings?

Already did SBC-3. Goshawks are near the top of the build list. Also plan to do a P-6E

Sorry. I had forgotten about your kampfflieger SBC-4 and your SOC.

Look forward to the Goshawks and the P-6E.

Amazon also has a nice set of 12 gray tones which can be really helpful for edge coloring.
And one of the tabs on this page links to a set of 12 skin tones.
