P-40 C 1/100 by Scissors and planes

The P40 was one of my favorite WW2 aircraft. I ordered this awhile ago by accident, I wanted a US flying tiger and thought the china version was one of them. No worries, Bruno will eventually revamp the p40 series but this kit with a little tlc builds into a nice rendition.

the biggest hurdle in this kit is making the landing gear down version. the p40 had little nacelles that housed the strut that was enclosed by gear doors. the main well had the wheel exposed. the kit gives little rough approximations of the nacelles in the closed position. to build the gear down I reworked the nose of these things by slightly enlarging it and cutting off the gear strut housing. pic 1 detail 1

the gear doors are scratch built rectangles, curved to match the nacelle curve. the struts are simple rolled cylinders with those ubiquitous knuckle joint thingeys... detail #2. detail #1 is the curved bottom piece that is marked to be scored. this would make it a squarish piece instead of the curved part on the real aircraft. The kit also comes with a 1 piece wing bottom, to be fit onto the fuselage. try as I might to attach it to the fuselage bottom I couldn't get it to fir right, so I split the wing in halves, the curved piece, detail # 1 covers the gap well...

I blame skynet/my laptop for not loading the pic...
fixed it, needed to be jpeg format. The 2nd pic also shows what needs to be adjusted the carburetor intake. it is set up to be rectangular and should be rounded. I need to move thru my s&p collection and see what else hits my short list for builds...

Hope you're right about S&P re-issuing the P-40 series soon CMDRTED- like others I'm a HUGE fan of the whole B-N series. Australia used a lot of 'em during the war (and did quite well with them) so maybe we might be lucky to see RAAF examples as well.

Bruno has his ways very similar to mine. he gets passionate about a series of planes, then I think he kinda burns out after the 15th or 20 th version in the series. then gets pin pricked by us with requests to do the royal porcelain version of 1935, no the green plaid one. he does well with his choices, be patient eventually like the strangely wrapped Christmas present you will be delighted to see what you always wanted!

I have looked at some of Bruno's early offerings and I am so glad he revisits these and redoes them. Like all of us he continues to learn and the rest of us get the benefit. Have to agree that the P-40 series has a multitude of nationalities to offer.
