They didn't. This is very old Maly Models and designer took a lot of liberties with it, including colors and markings.

Thanks Zenon- interesting. I've seen that Caudron (in the link) before but not the MS 406 or Dewoitine. They all seem to still retain French roundels on the wings but with Polish national insignia on the fuse.
