LZ129 Hindenburg schaal 1:200

A new model at my desk

Just 32 seconds and it was gone. The live broadcast from Herbert Morrisson was the same day on the radio in the whole US and became legendary.

You can find a lot of the history of this ship on the WWW.

The model is from Schreiber-Bogen and is level 3.

Fred, when I first opened your thread and saw that first photo, I thought for one horrible second you'd left your built model too close to the fireplace!

Seriously though, I've lately become absolutely enthralled by stories of these rigid airships. I've spent hours watching u-tube videos about Hindenberg, R-101, USS Macon & Akron, Shenendoah - you name it.

So I'll be watching your build with great interest- you going to post a step by step build thread? I hope so!

By the way, I just did a quick math on your completed model- just over 4 ft. Impressive size!

Started with sort the pages en cut theme from A3 to A4, 24 pages.

The instruction is just 2 pages with pictures and a note: "The parts of the model are to be constructed in numerical order"

Lots of parts are printed double, you can see the front:

And the back. Unfortunately you can't see it anymore when the model is finished. You can see the printing slightly throw the paper and that's really nice.

Started to cut out the first piece:

And the print on the back can be used to score the lines:

It will be impressive Rata:
The model will become 124 x 22 x 23 centimeter or 4,06 x 0.72 x 0.75 ft

I was never interested in airships but they always seemed to be in some kind of way fascinating, especially these from WWI.
I'll be following this thread inquistively.

I also love the romanticism of airships, especially the rigids. I'll be watching this thread for the build tips for my next effort; the Macon.

Airships are really big. A few years back I bought a set of blue lines for the Akron in 1/72 scale. (Common airplane modeling scale) When I opened them out, they were nearly eleven feet long!

By the way, the anniversary of the crash of the Akron is April 4 which is soon. And the Hindenburg on May 6.
