Hi All,

And hi, Texman. Thanks for the explanation. Both scenarios sound like they would be better accomplished by men with smaller prostates than mine.

Score and fold,

Thumb Dog

In October 1965 the US Navy tried to do its part to bring modern conveniences to the North Vietnamese. Some may have questioned its methods but its motivation was completely altrustic.

So I gotta ask. Where did you get the toilet bomb?
Gotta have one of those.

It is included in Murph's SPAD 409 kit. Not sure but it is probably in all of them.

Now I've seen everything. Wonder if that 'E' for 'bombing' excellence was awarded to the guy who last sat on it?

Talking

Finally completed this edition to my growing collection. Murph's 1:45 AD-1 shrunk to 1:100 jist cause I can. It went together very well. The only real complaint I have is that there are really not enough formers. Just a firewall and one "this is what the cross section of the fuse looks like". I cut that out, glued it to some card stock and then used it as a former just behind the cockpit. I think a newbie trying this build would be a little overwhelmed, but then I am sure we would all prefer Murph designing new stuff rather than that doing detailed directions which would be a real drag. Also thanks to Brent who did the recolor for this. He mentioned in one of my WIP threads to make sure the little hornet's head lined up on the vertical stabilizer. The only other minor crtiticism I have is that I don't think the fuel tank should be OD. I never saw an AD on the ground but I was based in Chu Lai in I Corps on the same airfield as Marine A-4's and all they had was white underwing tanks. Sitting next to my other 1:100 kits it is amazing how big the AD was in real life. I double checked and the wing span is spot on at 6" for 50 feet and change. Even next to a Devastator, which is a big aerioplane the Skyraider is huge.

I can remember doing BDA (Bomb or mebbe Battle Damage Assessment) behind AD's / SPADs during my all expenses paid vacation in SE Asia in 1970 from my little Hughes OH-6 "Loach". As I recall they would do some support below the DMZ while working up for their turn farther north in what was called "Yankee Station". AD's or SPADs were one of the few aircraft that really could deliver the stuff. As a loach pilot I was always amazed at how little most of our firepower accomplished when you saw it right up close. Definately not "shock & awe". I can remember helicopter gunship pilots bragging about how much sh!t they had blown away but in reality triple canopy jungle and rice patties absorbed those 2.75 rockets with almost no sign of damage. Most of the artillery fire, at least that I saw, was also pretty much a joke. Let me tell you real war is not "orange" and huge flames like you see in the movies. A flash of white, a dull thud that you can just barely hear over the sound of the turbine and rotors and then some dust. I also witnessed a few "Spooky" night missions. Very pretty but the next day there really wasn't much to be seen. Of course by that time in the war every hooch in S. Vietnam had about 3 "swimming pools" in their yard from all the bomb craters. It made the moon look like a desert.

As I was saying I did BDA behind AD and A-4 strikes and the devastation in the swath of their drop was really something. I think most of their ordanance was either demolition or napalm. Nape is definately not something you want to be involved in up close and personal.

The only thing I saw that was that was more devastating than these guys was when I did BDA sweeps about 2 minutes behind "arc light" strikes by BUFF's over Mr. H. C. Minh's little hiking trail in the western border of S. Vietnam. There was NOTHING for a path of about 2/3 of a klick about 200 - 300 yards wide. Just rest assured that there was nothing to BDA! Of course years later I found out that the USAF's security was so lousy the little doods in their black jammies knew when and where the BUFF's were coming so they just put up the "For Sale or Rent" signs and boogied out!
