Marek Pfalz D.III
My local model club has monthly meetings and informal monthly contests to go with those meetings. This year, every other month has a theme. One of this year's themes later this year is WWI, so I need to build something.
Through a little help from some friends, this is the project. While it doesn't look TOO daunting, it took me a bit of thinking on how to start this project. Build diagrams are at a minimum. The diagrams do not have much detail and there is no indication of exactly what parts need laminated (most of the ones with red part numbers) and by what thickness. So I based lamination thickness by type of part and thickness needed to accommodate the wire reinforcement part diameters. In the second picture, parts are laminated left to right onto Bristol, 0.5 mm, and 1 mm. I'm hoping the 1 mm is not too thick for proper fit. Guess I'll find out. greg

Greg,
1.0mm should be ok for this scale. I have used 0.5mm for his 1/50 kits. Bob |

Best of luck (and skill)!
Looking forward to your build thread.

For a WWI-er, this one had lots of fuselage curvature. Should be a challenge. Good luck!

The otherwise simple cockpit has few parts but one unclear part formation and installation.
The seat pedestal is not well represented by the build diagrams being denoted by a rectangle on the diagram. In reality, it has four "legs" to it. One would think it obvious to form the part and position these "legs" downward like I saw in another build thread on here and how I originally positioned the pedestal. One would be wrong. Checking the internet for interior photos and then exploring Wingnuts Wings site (they made a plastic 1/32 version of this plane). I found that these "legs" point up and may actually be part of the internal structure of the fuselage framework. Oh, and while I am on it, the wingnuts site also has an extensive rigging diagram that this paper kit does not have. greg

Great work so far. I believe you need to make some allowances for Marek's work. Many of these kits are from the 1980's

My intention is to not be harsh on this model (like I sometimes am to other brands products at times ) but to be informative on things to watch out for and provide tips based on my experiences to help others build a good example of their own. greg
