100 anniversary of the Red Baron's death

Hello modelers. Today we commemorate the 100 anniversary of Manfred Von Richthofen's death when he was shot by Australian troops. What about some nice card replicas of the famous Fokker Tri-Plane No. 425/17?

Off by one day.
It was the 21st. Not the 20th.

There are many kits. both free and paid.
For those interested in free kits, here's a good way to start:
A collection of eleven Fokker Dr.1s (all the available free downloads)
Since then, some other new free downloads have appeared.

There are also some great pre-printed kits by Orlik, Marek, Maly, Martinez-Casalta, Whilhelmshven, Modelik... and some others I don't remember right now.

Not a bad idea RickPink65. Just so long as your suggestion doesn't have a use-by date. If I add Herr Baron's Dr.I to my mental 'next build' list, it's about 27th in line....

Sigh, so many models, so little time.

Good luck to all with the beautiful Flying Circus

TLS Article on Richthofen 100

Immediately after reading these posts, I discovered an article in the Times Literary Supplement of 20 April 2018 on the subject of Richthofen's life and death, how he is remembered and misremembered, and the uses to which his memory have been put.

The article is here: https://www.the-tls.co.uk/articles/p...orld-war-hero/

Film footage of his burial with military honors by No. 3 Squadron (Australian), Royal Flying Corps: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tJUzIKeJJdY

Footage of the 1925 re-interment referred to in the article is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XKdz3HDDdZY

I build Triplane, a Roman machine version in 1/100, the livery of Dr I 425/17 is controversial but Roman made the version after a repair (Ritchofen made a landing crash) before you death... Is a easy and enjoyable model to build.

Full article can be found online through TLS. Search for Unforgotten by Jerry Palmer. It was somewhere in the first handful of hits. Very comprehensive article. Going to save it for vacation, it’s about 4 solid text pages.
The link from above leads to a for pay site. Don’t understand why they offer it as a pay article and as a free article.

Sorry, Joe and everyone. I did not realize that the site I indicated required payment. Instead of going in from my TLS account, I should have done what Joes did and Googled the article. Thanks, Joe, for that advice.

In any event, I agree with Joe that it is a solid article.
