Me 109 H by s&p 1/100 scale
Well guys it's been awhile. work, my daughter moving, work, and of course that big model block.....work! anyhows once again it would seem to be another out of order 109 this time the H model. but the H is actually built on the F series planes. this was an attempt to make a high altitude fighter out of the 109. it was being developed at a time the 209 series was being developed. the wingspan was increased and given a slight gull shape. once again the engine was beefed up the db 601e I think. the plan was to have several marks bomber, recon fighter etc but the high altitude fw ta 152h was put into production so the project was scrapped. lucky for us Bruno made an example for us to build...

Call off the SAR! He's back!
Another gem mister and I don't recall seeing a model of this interesting version in any medium.

Very nicely done Ted! I like the "barely there" camouflage.

Gaak! Thought sure you had mixed up your kits when I first saw that! Strange that the Germans thought you you needed that much wingspan to get off a carrier when nobody else did.
Very clean nice work. MS

Michael, the H model was not designed for carrier work but high altitude.
The wingspan on the T model was slightly lengthened and included flaps and slats to improve low speed landings. this has been the carrier aircrafts #1 challenge. almost anything can take off into the wind its the controlled crash at the end that makes carrier landings so "eventful". |

Additionally Me109 was know to have very small range so that prompted big changes in wing construction.Add to that additional sea specific requirements and Me-109T needed their own replacement parts. No wonder Germans replaced them with other fighters as soon as they became available.

Willy's wasserschmidt me 109w
next up is a rarity among the 109s the w model. This was a basic F4 I believe, that the germans had added the floats from an arado float plane. there was 2 versions, one that had the floats attached by struts similar to the arado, and the other was attached by 2 stout struts. it was an unexceptional conversion, the fighter characteristics of the 109 were heavily compromised and they certainly didn't need a float plane as the arado was exceptional at what it did, recon. the Japanese on the other hand did a float zero that retained most of the exceptional qualities of the parent zero. the conversion project was fairly simple. take a camo version 109f from brunos many selections and the arado float plane floats from that model, and make 2 aerodynamic "rectangles" for the floats attachments. the fit on the seam between the outer most section of landing gear bay and the wing panel seam. they attach at the middle of the step on the floats. simple sorta. you shoud match the colors of both camo sections...
