Sorry can't compete with Commander T. with his detailed build threads. Too "Alice's Reataurant" for me. All those circles and glossy photos with paragraphs on the back. For those who are of too young an age I quote from Wikipedia :

"The song describes to ironic effect Obanhein's frustration at the ensuing "typical case of American blind justice", in which the officer was prepared to present at trial "twenty-seven 8-by-10 color glossy pictures with circles and arrows and a paragraph on the back of each one explaining what each one was to be used as evidence against us", only to have the judge enter the courtroom accompanied by a seeing-eye dog. Guthrie and Robbins both pleaded guilty, were fined $25 each by Special Justice James E. Hannon, and picked up the garbage on Saturday afternoon, following a heavy rain. Obanhein said the youths "found dragging the junk up the hillside much harder than throwing it down". He added that he hoped their story would prove to be a deterrent to others.

(Get back to the subject Michael)

These artistic types that design these things don't believe in much in the way of instructions so you are on your own. Not sure what I did wrong but to to get the next to last tail section on I had to do some invasive surgery and slit it up its bottom (too graphic?). Later I will print off a page on light paper and apply a patch. Prolly historically accurate 'cause a rough water landing would almost certainly require such repairs. Some of these things flew 3 million miles (no idea how many Klicks that is)

Tonight's 6 o'clock news. Progress Report. Making some headway. Because the fuse sections are not "full circle" I had to glue them on a bit at a time. Next up is the bottom forward planing surface. It may go easy, it may go hard. I have learned in years of modeling not to attempt something complex when I am tried so this will be on manyana's morning schedule. Taking shape and looking good my man.

And comparing your progress with THE INSTRUCTIONS THAT ARE INCLUDED IN THE DOWNLOAD, rest assured you're doing everything right.

FINALLY we have a fuselage. What a journey. Feel like I just flew around the world keel hauled (look it up) to the bottom planing surface. Don't get me wrong most of the issues are self inflicted. It seems like building paper aerioplanes is like life. You just can't get it right the first time.

Gary's design is very sound but because of the bottom surface you don't have completely circular fuse sections. Because of this you have to slowly attach the sections one little bit at a time fighting all the way to get them lined up. Perhaps if it was designed like a regular aerioplane and then had the hull added?? The other thing I keep coming back to is the issue of overlap vs butt (laugh from Rata in the background) joints. I don't think I will EVER do overlap again. For me it just comes out butt ugly.

So now I can move on to the wings and mebbe get this ol' gal back on track. She sure is a beauty. The painting of the one in the twilight in my first post is what keeps me on track.

Looks very good but not perfect, to be honest.
We have to keep in mind that the flying boats are always much more difficult than any other types of aircraft. That's why I don't want to be the first builder of my recolored and enlarged Catalina.

Anyway, you're doing great work on this 314. Way better than I could, I think.

I'm looking forward for more.

Tonight's update. Started on wings and I am much more comfortable with this. Devised my own wing spar as proper dihedral seems to be a real weak point to me with paper kits.

Wasn't a laugh, I just trod on something sharp (no, it wasn't your wit).

100% with you on overlap joints- doesn't matter how thin the paper is, they never work.
