Your build is inspirational. I have the Catalina printed and on the to-do list. The front turrent seems a bit off, however. I may make some adjustments.

Thanks Sygrod. I know what you mean about the front turret- slopes a bit forward. The only way I can see out of it is to adjust the join line between nose and 2nd fuse segment. Bit too much surgery after I had it all glued together so I decided to just live with it. No model is perfect and this little issue is no reflection on PacificWind. Plus it's only really noticeable when viewed from the side anyway.

Yes. I agree. The models are works of art in their own right. If we, as we are building them come across things we want to change, we can always do that ourselves.

Impressive work, Garry. You really know how to handle difficult models.
I don't regret choosing you for the first builder.

Not a problem Kacper- I'm more than happy to do it buddy!

BTW, CMDRTED and MichaelS (and I'm sure others) use these little gadgets (generally referred to as 'dotting tools' for fingernail art etc) in the first two pics and convinced me to get some. BEST INVESTMENT EVER. Should be mandatory equipment on all paper modelling work desks. Use 'em for burnishing the inside of wingtips, rounded canopies etc.

Got the wing on today and much happier with the incidence angle. I usually leave tailplanes pretty much till last on my builds 'cos I tend to accidently knock and bump them.

How small is your PBY! or you have huge hands, that barbarous, as I said before I admire the club of 1/100, how they achieve these small wonders. It looks great Garry, and very nice tools

Have to agree on the ball end tools. Amazing how much you can shape paper.

Yep. Paper CAN bend two ways at once!

Onto the engines. Like on most fuselage and other round shaped components, I don't like overlap joins so I cut off the printed tabs and add my own (a la Nobi). To me much neater- especially on small scale stuff like this.
The engines and cowl front on this are of the painted on relief type. I know some builders aren't a fan of this, but on 1/100 or smaller I don't have a problem with it. I glued these two front parts on to doublers to make a them a bit stronger.
I suspected the vee shapes that go around the leading edges were a bit too 'pointy' and was right. Carefully rounded them out a bit. Remember when doing adjustments like this- BABY STEPS.

All good.

Looks great, Garry! Between Kacper's design and your craftsmanship, a god-looking Catalina is taking shape.

I just ordered a set of dotting tools like yours to add to my doll eyeball sizers and other burnishing tools.
