BAe 146-200 from Gary Pilsworth

I am about to start a recolour (proper English spelling) of Gary Pilsworth’s BAe 146 commuter jet into a Delta Connection/ASA paint scheme. There was a lot of talk in another thread here of people vectoring the model and developing different paint schemes for this model. However, a search of this site doesn’t bring up any new schemes, or even a build of the original model. I will post my build report here, and invite anybody that has built this model to add their work here.

Model download is available here: http://www.papermodelers.com/forum/v...ownloadid=2482

Go for it Knife. This will be sort of a double edged thread.

I can't believe I still haven't finished vectoring the model. When something gets in the way, I completely forget about the stuff I was working on..... :( A really bad habit I have to deal with.
BTW, I'm looking for some good reference photos of the panel lines, gear wells ect. Does anyone know any good sources?

Really looking to see the finished bird. Is it going to be in the original scale?

Thanks for contributing to the thread. Looks like a good build. My repaint will be full size (1/48 scale), which makes it a large model.

Reminds me of the days when I visited QANTAS in Sydney and the head of maintenance asked me if I know why this plane had 4 engines? His answer was because they could not fit a fifth engine on. Another word it was under powered for their operations.

My solution would have been to place only 2 engines on it powerful enough to do the job.

Those were the old Avco Lycoming ALF 502 turbofan engines ( geared fan engines ).

I was told “BAe” stood for Bring Another Engine. I guess the had some reliability issues with the engines. Anyway, I started a build of the original design. This is one big model. Good details in the wheel wells and the tail speed brakes. The aft passenger windows need to be lowered a bit, and door handles need to be added to the doors. Cargo hatches and the APU panels will also be added.

The wing ribs looked a little flimsy so I added a little reinforcement to keep them straight and aligned.

Looks good Knife.
One thing I love about Pilsworth's designs is there's absolutely no question were things go- just look at that yellow area!
