I was thinking more solid "low viz" gray or stealth black for all airplanes indiscriminately!

Some Air Forces commanders did allow for camouflage specific to area of operations,off the top of my head Reggia Aeronautica did that after Greek campaign.Result was insane amount of "variations on theme" as evidenced by pictures and near constant arguing on some forums about it.

The last thing the already vulnerable Buffalo needed was to be seen a mile away by an enemy pilot. Maybe the the thinking was the enemy would appreciate the Buffalo's 'bold confronting style' and refrain from shooting it down.
