Cool B-17 at Dayton Ohio

The US Air Force museum is having their unveiling of the Memphis Belle tomorrow. As part of the whple weekend event, they flew in 3 B-17s and 5 P-51 as well as some trainers over the museum. However, due to the heavy rains that morning, none landed at the museum runway and then departed to near by fields. One of the B-17G, Aluminum Overcast, is parked next to my home at the Dayton Wright brothers airport.

Here are some pictures of it ( and me ).

Wow! I envy you Isaac being that up close and personal to my all-time fave bomber.

MichaelS has posted a great link on the 'Belle in The Cardboard Lounge. Well worth a look.

I sat and watched the live stream of the presentation ceremony with the families of
the crew of Memphis Belle.

Quite moving. They have done an outstanding job on the restoration. The aircraft
is posed on stands, gear up, with the bomb bay doors open, evoking memories of
a mission in progress.

Cool More pics

Thanks guys. I am very lucky!

I decided not to volunteer at the Air Force museum this weekend. It will be too crowded.

I will see the Memphis Belle next week and will post pictures as well.

In the meantime, here are some more pics of the Aluminum overcast, I will see her again tomorrow and this weekend.

enjoy

Today is the big day for the Memphis Belle! I wish I was there too. You are lucky!

I was hoping to get my kit done in time for this event but a huge project at work has been eating up most of my time and effort. Here are a couple photos of my most recent test build to give an idea how it is coming along. The miss-matching color among parts is due to printer malfunction. I look forward to seeing photos from anyone that is at the unveiling.

The Yankee Lady, the B-17 from the Yankee Air Museum at Willow Run, MI, is scheduled to participate in the event. I couldn't hitch a ride! But, I too am lucky enough to be within 3 miles of this beauty, and a member of the museum, so I get to see it, often flying over my house! We hope to get, someday, a B-24, built by Ford at the Willow Run Bomber Plant. Jim

Jim

The Yankee Lady was parked at The Urbana airfield which is about an hour away for me, so I did not see it up close .
