Red face The 787 of its day. Gary Pilsworth's Boeing 314 Clipper in 1:150

So my next trek into history will be the Boeing 314 Clipper. Built in the days when there were very few large airports so the waterways of the world offered a perfect solution. At the start of WW2 for the US the Clippers in the Pacific had to fly west to avoid the Japanese. One of these completed the first circumnavigation of the world by a commercail aircraft in 1942. This and the DC-3 really were the parents of the amazing air travel industry that we have today. Can you imagine actually having a sleeping berth in your airplane? Both of these aircraft were designed with very luxurious accommodations. Too bad that legacy didn't make it to the flying sardine cans of today.

1:100 would have had a wingsapn of 18 inches so I opted for 1:150 (approx). So far it is going together nicely. What an amazing hobby we have where there are so many quality kits available for free or a mere pittance. Contrast that to the Tamiya and Trumpeteer kits over in pl#$^tic land with prices nearing $200.00!!

Wonderful project!

These were still flying out of Baltimore under BOAC colors when we moved there in late 1946.

Taking shape already! You don't muck around. Can't wait to see her.

I've had your phone disconnected and posted a hired goon at the door of your modelling den so you don't get any interruptions- your work here is vital to the war effort.
