Zio's Tempest

As always, starting with a plane designed by Fabrizio Prudenziati is a joy. The man has left us a fabulous set of models. I was in need for an inbetweenie so I chose oneof his Tempests. These planes come without an instruction sheet so it is a little hard to figure out where goes what and how to shape them correctly. But there is always the good old interwebs to figure out stuff you don't know.

The biggest challenge here was the chin radiator, which needed a very delicate curvature to fit correctly.I love how the canopy came out. It looks great. I used an embossing tool to curve it a little more.

The prop was modified to spin using a pin, some tiny beads and CA glue to put it in place. I cut off the sharktooth tabs at the nose section and placed a circular former at its place, with a hole for the prop in it. The pin went through one tiny bead, the prop, another tiny bead and at the end of that train, I placed a small 4mm cut-off piece of lollypop stick (made of paper) and CA'ed that in place. Of course leaving a tiny margin for the prop to keep spinning freely. Then I pushed it in the hole. And voilą.

What I like most of Zio's planes is the way you have to curve and play with the flat paper parts to create this 3D object. His are quite unique in this aspect.

You did a fine job of navigating through Zio's paper model offering.
The final result looks very good.
The shot of the propeller spinning is entertaining. The yellow streak of the propeller blade tips shows up nice.

Thanks for the kind words, friends.

Hi Draco, I have downloaded most of them long ago, it appears there are a lot of models missing now in the wayback machine, but as far as I know, the Tempests are all still there.

Look here and click on the Tempest.

If not, PM me.

If anyone has Zio's Reggiane Sagittario for me, I'd be very happy. It's the only one I am missing in my collection.

I have two of them. PM me your email address and I can help you out.

After all, it isn't a collection unless you have all of them

Excellent job! And, thank you for your help. Here's why. I had almost completed one of Zio's Tempests in 1/72 several years ago, but I had so much trouble forming the chin scoop that I gave up in frustration, and put the model aside. Now I see why it wouldn't work: I was trying to mount the filter flush with the scoop's front opening rather than recessing it, as you did. D'oh! Now I will be able to finish it.
