Actually, it was well said. Just not for what I was seeing.

Michael my mate to me your attitude is the natural by-product of age, life experience and WISDOM. I'm only 10 years shy of your current age, but look up to you as the inspirational older brother figure. And you are right- a sense of humour is a vital ingredient in any relationship- my marriage is testament to that. And self deprecating humour along with being able to give and take a joke IS and HAS to be part of all that. Look at the dumb, childish digs you and I have had at each other (of course mine are much wittier and funnier than yours).
I only joined this forum a few months ago and certainly would not claim to know you well, but what I do know about you is enough to earn you 'top bloke' status in my books fella. AG

My thanks to everyone, life leaves its scars on everyone and we all have at least a few. Having lost my family and my home over five difficult years was not great and having a few experiences of flying lead myself can understand some of these experiences in others. Having read the comments above it feels a little like having a home from home or a coffee shop/pub with many good people to visit which is healing in its own way. I feel though that it is time to lock or close this thread. Hopefully it has served its purpose for others too. Stay well folks, an altered quote from Spock that I use occasionally. Live long, live well and be happy.

Mike,
It is your thread and you are certainly entitled to close it. It is clear that many here on this haven have suffered and lost. Part of my purpose here has been to try ease some of my hurt and the pain and lonliness of others with a little humor mixed in with mangling paper. Like any family we have our troubles. But like a good family we work through the issues and become stronger. To me this thread has proven that. Every family seems to have a crazy old uncle that everybody tries to tolerate. I guess I am that uncle. Mike, like you I have a favorite signoff. Live. Laugh. Love MS

Reading through all this, I think the moral of the story is that, given the international nature of the forum, we should keep our language simple and direct. Also, we should remember that attempts at humor and levity a) often fall flat because few people are as funny as they think they are and b) humor often does not translate well in such international forums.
Best to stick to modeling and plain English. |

If the thread is going to close, maybe it should end with a song

Some interesting thoughts have been shared in this dialogue.
To conclude, I'd like to add this: Quote:
