Images of L2Ds in Surrender Markings

Unfortunately, I do not have any information on the source of this image or where the photograph was taken, but it shows L2Ds in overall white with green surrender crosses.

This site has many images of Japanese surrender aircraft (I am sending this from my office computer and am not sure if the images will show up): https://www.military-quotes.com/foru...t-t110963.html

Don

PS: I just discovered that Kacper had already posted a much better image in a different thread: http://www.papermodelers.com/forum/638666-post13.html

Do you know when and where the photo was taken, Kacper?

No, but I think it was taken somewhere in Japan, in 1945(this date is pretty obvious).

Many thanks for providing the link to that excellent website, Carlos!

The problem with the other site may be that you have to be a member to view the images, but the site you provided has the same images in a better presentation.

Having gone through the images, I see that there are two that feature L2Ds. Both shots were taken at Seletar, Singapore, so my tentative conclusion is that the image that Kacper posted was also taken at Selatar.

These images also show that, while most of the surrender aircraft were painted overall white, there were a number of variations.

Don

Yes, that's probably the reason.

I guess I am thinking of Bettys that had the white bands.

Any Zero or other fighters decked out in these marking?

Michael - Go to the website that Carlos posted, scroll down to the second set of images and check out 8-12 for white and green cross Zeros. Don

Very nice PacificWind, just downloaded it!

Such a shame Trotskiy wouldn't allow sharing recolors of his many models - I have his F1M2 Pete that I recolored as Sanyo Maru's floatplane for a Philippine history project that's on hold.

I was going though my DC-3 (+ DC-2, L2D, Li-2) profile folder and found this one: A surrendered L2D "Tabby" with the green cross covered with RAF SEAC roundels and used by the french air Force in post war Indochina. It was lost in an accident in july 1946.
