A marvel. Garry, beautiful work. And what can we say about what Don Boose tells us? The knowledge he has about this is impressive. Very well done!

Thanks Ray and Sergio. And Sergio you're spot-on mate. This thread wouldn't have a fraction of the impact without Don's input.

Don Boose has other, more important things going on at the moment so can't post his usual description of the full size. He did however kindly take the time to prepare one earlier so I'll post it next. BTW, you'll love the story of this particular Dauntless.
Great job my friend. One of these days you really need to try doing these with clear canopy and a cockpit interior.

I gave a printed one of these to a young man a few weeks ago. I will check with him and see if he has started it. I will send him this link for inspiration.

Edit:

I went back and checked this out again. You REALLY did a great job on the nose. You should consider doing rhinoplasty!! (LookItUp)

Could you give a little insight as to how you worked the wing fillets?

Thanks folks. Re the nose scoop; my son showed me how to replicate exact colour matches on MS 'Paint'. So I did a swatch panel in red and another larger one in Bruno Grey. On the red one I drew freehand a scoop as shown. Took a few goes to get it right and some fiddly trimming. When on I just hand painted acrylic the black rear portion.

The grey I used for the wing fillets. Again trial and error and applied overlength and when dry trimmed off the rear overhang with a gentle 'sawing' motion with scalpel blade and then smoothing down by knurling with a small paint brush handle. I've found with wing fillets on all builds it's best to keep them minimal and avoid trying to get that near impossible double curvature which usually ends in kinks and distortion anyway. The rear half to two thirds of the wing chord is usually enough on 1/100 models.

Hope this is of some help, Garry G.

OK I see that now. Pretty sneaky on the nose intake. You also did a great job matching the fuselage stripe color.

I hope you don't try to take credit for the correct LSO stripes on the sides of the fin.
