However, an F82 twin Mustang is not two P51D Mustangs.
In fact, P51D were not used to make a F82.

The F82 fuselage is almost 6 feet longer and very different in shape to a P51D.
It is a unique and purpose built fuselage created just for the F82.
Even the outer wings are very different to a P51s.

Your build is very well done...clean...and interesting.
But its not a P51.

The F-82 fuselages were a lot closer to the P-51H than -D. But this is purely acedemic- Maxe just created something for the fun of it and he did a fine job too! Keep 'em coming Maxe!

Maxe and Everyone - I hope you will bear with me for a little silliness inspired by Maxe's superb model and Dave's comment that it is a great model, but not a P-51.

What is the proper name for this beautiful airplane? It may not be a P-51, but mathematically, it IS a Mustang: One half of a Twin Mustang = two Mustangs divided by two = one Mustang. Q.E.D.

It can't be a P-41 (P-82/2) because there really was a Seversky XP-41, which was a super P-35 on the way to becoming a P-43 Lancer. But the F-41 slot is fortuitously open, so in my mind, Maxe has built an F-41 Mustang.

Now I will exit before the Butterfly Boat shoves me off the stage, and I will eagerly await Maxe's next model.

Don

Now you've opened a can of worms DB! This debate will go on for weeks now.....

And to kick it off: it's technically less than half because Maxe didn't use ANY of the centre wing panel.....

The only reason I said anything was:
because he originally called it a P-51 (title of this thread)...

and I wouldn't have said a thing...
until the images in post #8 appeared
again indicating that the F-82 had been transformed into a P-51.

I made the assumption that maxe doesn't realize the immense differences between a normal P-51
and the components used in the F-82.

I'd also disagree that it is "closer to the P-51H".
Even though two P-51H fuselages may have been used in the XP-81 prototype,
they were still modified and lengthened by about 5 feet.

One of the unique things about every fighter and other aircraft, is its wing shape.
Its what defined the Spitfire and Mustang as possibly the greatest fighters of their time.
The F-82 has totally different wings to a P-51.
Another reason it's far removed from a P-51.

I still say the model looks very well put together
...and the idea of reducing an F82 to a single fuselage aircraft is very interesting and very well done by Maxe!

But if Maxe thought he was creating a P-51, he hasn't.
I'm in no way trying to be insulting to Maxe.

And Don,

I think half of an F-82...mathematically...is a C-41

you do the math: A(1) B(2) C(3) D(4) E(5) F(6)
