Great work Isaac. You're doing an amazing job, especially given all of the challenges with this build. Nice fix on the nose, the colour matches very well.

Exclamation main wheels well- initial work

The main gear wheel housing is now ready for partial assembly

additional material added
Su-9 first generation-Orel 1/33 scale-img_7215.jpg

and then the walls glued one piece at a time.

Not the best method, but necessary for me.

Some loose parts remain until the wings go on.

Cool Wing structure

The inner wing framing and support is a modification of the kit.

To start with, I added two wooden coffee stirrers to the fuselage
Su-9 first generation-Orel 1/33 scale-img_7217.jpgSu-9 first generation-Orel 1/33 scale-img_7218.jpg

Now add the kit's wing spars ( cut to size )
Su-9 first generation-Orel 1/33 scale-img_7219.jpg

Before using the actual kit wings, I asked Yoav to use his Photoshop skills and join the separate wind sections along the leading edge ( Thank you Yoav ). I then printed on card stock and glued along the trailing edge. The test wings are used as a proper template while I figure out the structure as I go, and later on, I will re print on thin paper for the wing leading edge ( you will see that later ).
Su-9 first generation-Orel 1/33 scale-img_7220.jpgSu-9 first generation-Orel 1/33 scale-img_7221.jpg

here are the test wings next to the kit's wing parts which are separate ( makes no sense why they were not joined ).
Su-9 first generation-Orel 1/33 scale-img_7222.jpg

Now glue the card spars to the wood sections
Su-9 first generation-Orel 1/33 scale-img_7223.jpgSu-9 first generation-Orel 1/33 scale-img_7225.jpg

slip on the test wings for dry fit
Su-9 first generation-Orel 1/33 scale-img_7226.jpgSu-9 first generation-Orel 1/33 scale-img_7227.jpg

add some of the kit's wing ribs
Su-9 first generation-Orel 1/33 scale-img_7231.jpgSu-9 first generation-Orel 1/33 scale-img_7232.jpg

glue a top and then bottom sheets to act as a slip for the wing
Su-9 first generation-Orel 1/33 scale-img_7233.jpg

and now slide the test wings in and adjust the frames as needed. Dry fit only

The improved wings went out very nicely, but i think there is a difference between their color and the color of the rest of the model.

You are correct. At the end, I did not use them for the actual model build which is printed in silver color. But I did use the leading edges parts. That's later.

Thumbs up Wings continued

The wings in this kit are printed with separate upper and lower skins that need to be joined. The problem with that is that you will never be able to round the leading edges without the sharp knife edge outcome or worse the open fish mouth cross section.

I could not use my spare photoshoped wings that were already joined since I can't print in silver.

so.....

I will use the kit wings with a modification.
Su-9 first generation-Orel 1/33 scale-img_7239.jpgSu-9 first generation-Orel 1/33 scale-img_7240.jpg

first order is to shape the wings by rounding them along the leading edge

then glue a leading edge joining strip
Su-9 first generation-Orel 1/33 scale-img_7243.jpg
Su-9 first generation-Orel 1/33 scale-img_7244.jpgSu-9 first generation-Orel 1/33 scale-img_7247.jpg

now glue at the trailing edge
Su-9 first generation-Orel 1/33 scale-img_7248.jpg

and as predicted here is the fish mouth leading edge ( ough )!
Su-9 first generation-Orel 1/33 scale-img_7253.jpg

wings are ready ( minus the landing gear bays )
and next to the test wings ( notice the color differences ).

Cool Wings dry fit

Now slip the wings on and make any adjustments needed to the framing. Dry fit only.
