Very nice work indeed. I love the separate control surfaces.

Here is what the plane looks like at this stage

Su-9 first generation-Orel 1/33 scale-img_7311.jpgSu-9 first generation-Orel 1/33 scale-img_7312.jpg

Other then the complication and issues I had with the parts fitting or mating ( like the wing tips ), the plane came out OK

Cool Engine nacelle- part 1

The engines are podded in nacelles the same way as the Me-262. However, they are not identical.

The construction of the nacelle is the same as the fuselage; frames inside and external surfaces over it. However, I will use the same method as the fuselage and add glue tabs and modify the frames.

Here are the kit parts
Su-9 first generation-Orel 1/33 scale-img_7313.jpg

and the major parts of the frame
Su-9 first generation-Orel 1/33 scale-img_7314.jpg

the kit surfaces have no glue tabs

I printed a second set of nacelles on thin and card paper and used those parts to form the glue tabs ( the curved section used thin tabs and the rest used the card ).
Su-9 first generation-Orel 1/33 scale-img_7316.jpgSu-9 first generation-Orel 1/33 scale-img_7317.jpg

glue the forward skins together and slide dry fit over the frame
Su-9 first generation-Orel 1/33 scale-img_7318.jpg

first look next to the wing
Su-9 first generation-Orel 1/33 scale-img_7319.jpgSu-9 first generation-Orel 1/33 scale-img_7320.jpg

add the exhaust nozzle onto the rear frame
Su-9 first generation-Orel 1/33 scale-img_7321.jpg

use Yoav's technique to keep the exhaust part round
Su-9 first generation-Orel 1/33 scale-img_7322.jpg

build the aft nacelle
Su-9 first generation-Orel 1/33 scale-img_7323.jpg

now cut the inner frame in half as shown ( you will see why later )
Su-9 first generation-Orel 1/33 scale-img_7324.jpg

assemble the forward and aft nacelle halves. No frames used yet.

part 2 of the assembly to follow

Exclamation Engine nacelle- part 2

continued.

The engine inlet cone is glued in place to the forward nacelle to match. The kit parts are a bit short in this location .

insert the forward half of the frame and glue and glue in place
Su-9 first generation-Orel 1/33 scale-img_7329.jpg

The aft frame has to be cut a bit more ( in the center ) to allow it to be slipped in aft. Also the rear frames need to be cut back a bit around the exhaust area
Su-9 first generation-Orel 1/33 scale-img_7330.jpgSu-9 first generation-Orel 1/33 scale-img_7331.jpg

both nacelles done
Su-9 first generation-Orel 1/33 scale-img_7332.jpg

dry fit to the wings

I added 4 small card stock parts on the inside to support the glueing of the nacelles to the wings
Su-9 first generation-Orel 1/33 scale-img_7344.jpg

glue the nacelles to the wing.

the aft area is ambiguous, however it will be covered by an aft fairing, so it makes no difference
Su-9 first generation-Orel 1/33 scale-img_7352.jpg

both nacelles glued on
Su-9 first generation-Orel 1/33 scale-img_7353.jpg

add the rear fairing
Su-9 first generation-Orel 1/33 scale-img_7354.jpg

here is the forward fairing
Su-9 first generation-Orel 1/33 scale-img_7357.jpg

aft fairing

and a view of the faired nacelle
Su-9 first generation-Orel 1/33 scale-img_7359.jpgSu-9 first generation-Orel 1/33 scale-img_7361.jpg

lastly is to add the nose cone to the engine inlet

All of the work was worth it. You've got a beautiful aircraft. Nice work Isaac.

Gary

As complicated and at times this model is frustrating to build, I find it satisfying to solve the complexities and build it. If I am stuck or results don't look OK, I will stop and continue the work later or the next day.

Thanks

Isaac
