Recoloring the wrong way (in raster)

First do a the screen capture of the model you want to recreate and copy it into MS Powerpoint. Do the biggest size it fits in the screen.
I will use the, by now familiar, Bruno's DC-5 that Pacific Winds and Café have done wonderfully in vector.
1 Get the screen shot using the Print Screen command into Powerpoint
2 Clean in Paint (and recolor the ruder)
3 Return to powerpoint and add the insignia and lettering
4 Finally resize to your desire scale. The original scale bar is 10 cm. In my case I always rescale to 1/400 or a scale bar of 7.5cm

Now, this is supposed to be fun, if you do not like the result then learn Inkscape or wait till someone do the recolor that you want.

But if you do not need a model super accurate you may follow this:

5 Convert your first capture to b&w in Powerpoint
6 Clean it in Paint
7 Recolor in Paint
8 Return to Powerpoint for insignia and lettering or personal markings (if available as a picture)
9 Rescale

in progress

These are intermediate stages one tree tone in Powerpoint where the b&w is transparent and you may put objects under the main model, the other a recolor of the Japanese recolor in two tone camo.

Alignment

Keep clean copies of the stages in case you need to make adjustments for alignments (the bigger the model before rescaling the better).

You may be happy with the results

These are samples of recolors from Bruno the wrong way!!!
All in 1/400. The vampire was reduced from 1/100 to 1/400, all the others from 1/300.
Hope you enjoy this tutorial (?).

And thank you Bruno for all the possibilities you have opened to current and future modelers and recolorists.

ps: Please learn well Inkscape so I can request nice recolors with thin lines in vector.

ps the last picture look chibi, but it was not intentional

There's no wrong or right way when it comes to recolors. Use the techniques you're more familiar with. As you said, it's supposed to be fun!

The only wrong way to go about it is the way that frustrates and angers you...

in gray, better than black

Remember, this should be fun. No one is going to die!
Other recommendation by Michik was to use gray instead of black, particularly for light or white models, and I agree, but not always follow this important recommendation.

You may convert your w&b to gray in Powerpoint relatively easy with the format recolor function. Then using Paint to recolor the true blacks that are needed.

Thank you for your comments, and if you want quality recolors look for Carlos Ferreira!

ps for those who may choose this path and get stock send me a PM, I may be able to help a little.
