Learning to Repaint

Over the last few months or so I have made the jump into learning inkscape to start my own recolors and I have gotten addicted. I encourage anyone who thinks they may be interested to take the leap and start. A mixture of models below. The Beaver and Atlas 747 are from Julius from paper-replika.com, the small ones (and 727 enlarged to 1:200) are from bruno, and the GLO airlines was my first attempt at vectorizing Gary Pilsworth's new Saab. I will upload the files downloads for anyone interested.

Inkscape is a good free alternative for graphics work.

I like that Beaver...Julius does nice designs.

For anyone trying their hand at "repaints", you DO NOT need anyone's permission to do a repaint of any model.
That is a private thing for personal use only.

You DO need permission from the original author/designer to share (or sell) your repainted version.
Make sure you contact the original author and get this!

And make sure you credit the original author/designer (and their work) somewhere in your repaint.

You've done a great job on all of the models. I particularly love the colours on the Saab.

Airdave, you are absolutely right about rights to the model. I have conferred with Julius and he has added the beaver to his website. I have also conferred with bruno and he has given his blessing for the 1/300 models as well. I am having trouble contacting Gary pilsworth for his permission to distribute the saab. Can someone redirect me. I wont release it otherwise

Dave your right, I will read this post....

I'm sure I have said in the past somewhere that anyone who wishes to do a repaint of any of my designs are more than welcome to do so and upload them here, so please go ahead and repaint to your hearts content.

Hueycobra, this is very interesting. I've been trying to recolour paper models for a long time, using Paint Shop Pro (X-3). I visited the Inkscape website, it looks very professional and a bit complicated. I followed the tutorials by Banas, but I did not get an idea, how to do cheat lines on the segments of a fuselage of a paper model. Do you have any tips or suggestions?

Try this for starters: Inkscape, Recoloring, and old threads!

Scon10, i used the generous contributions of the members above as well as a few youtube videos to guide my way. My reccomendation is to pick a blank model and attempt something simple. Cheat lines can be the hardest to line up and still give me trouble. Remember to have fun first and take a break if you get frustrated. I reguarly check the forums if you have a specific question about my paticular repaints which I will uplod soon. Best of luck and good wishes.
