Yak 1 middle version.
Back to the original series already in progress. The next variant is a more refined Yak1. the original production version lacked adequate rearward vision. until the bubble/blown canopies arrived the Russians cut out the rear canopy panels to a larger rear allowing a little better check 6 vision. the gun sights were improved, control stick modified and as always up-engined. the Russians also had a unique philosophy regarding armament. They armed their fighters with limited barrels but better focused forward and emphasized marksmanship in their training. the early 1 series had a canon firing thru the prop hub and 2 small 7.62 machine guns on the forward cowling. later the cowling guns would be up sized to a single port 12.7mm. sometimes they would have 2 12.7s in the cowling, and these small subtle changes accounted for the numerous marks of 1 etc.
Back to the kit, as earlier mentioned the wing was redrawn to 2 separate wings with simplified intakes, here are the parts layed out, re colored ready to start... |

other bits being built; prop hub abd separated blades, tail surfaces and the overall fuselage. a small note, on the original the after section of fuselage turned out to be a smidge asymmetrical. this led to a small mismatch when mating the cockpit section and allowing the old style canopy a place to mate up with. I simply took the larger section flipped it over in the editing program and it allowed the older canopy to be fit.

Small scale paper modelling at it's finest. Thanks so much for the insight into how you improve these otherwise great Bruno designs CMDRTED. I think at this point your computer skills are way ahead of mine but lately during lunch breaks at work I've been fiddling about and making small changes to designs via Paint and Photoshop on my laptop and getting positive results. The designers and re-painters aren't under any threat yet but I'm learning!

thanks guys hope it helps. onwards to the wing mods. If you build the fuselage just right, and perfect, with no deviations you can use the one piece wings. I got it to fit, once in 3 tries so the wing got bisected. The bottom was made a little big so it could be trimmed in to fit. you then add the air scoops after the wings were joined to the fuselage.

Hi Ted,
You're doing a wonderful job of upgrading this 1st gen model to 4th gen (or is it 5th) standards. Please, make them available to all via Ecard (when it gets up and running). They're worth it. B |

Another great project, Ted!
Looks like you're taking pictures under some harsh lighting conditions, specifically, I assume, fluorescent lighting. If your camera doesn't have a setting to compensate for those conditions, you can use your Paint Shop Pro to do a quick fix - just go to Adjust>White Balance. You can, of course further refine those adjustments, but the White Balance will make a fast, marked initial improvement. Gene |
