Soviet X-planes
I got a delivery of kits, canopies wheels and frames.
Of interest here are 2 kits of experimental aircraft. The Mig E-8 which is a modified Mig-21 with the engine inlet under the chin ( sort of like the F-16 ). That aircraft design was a dead end. also, the Suchoi Su-15 ( first designation ). It is a two engine ( yes, one engine in front of the other exhausting under the fuselage and the other at the tail ). This was to be a fighter interceptor. That concept was also dropped. Here are the Model-Kom kits and the laser frames in 1/33 scale. I know that there is a build of the Mig E8 out there not sure about the Suchoi version though. But the kits are relatively simple. Isaac,
Both look like interesting kits. That Su-15 is a very different design. Gary

Indeed. My youngest son (who's not into aircraft but IS into sea life) saw me looking at Isaac's first photo and wanted to know why there's a plane that looks like a Basking Shark!

Pics of the actual plane
Here are some pics and views of the Suchoi 15 first use of this designation aircraft.
It needed a huge inlet because it was feeding two engines. So function before aesthetics ruled the day. Isaac

Indeed not very aesthetic.
I once started a design for that model but lost interest. IIRC the cockpit is ,not centered on the fuselage either making it even more peculiar. B |

I noticed the offset cockpit on the blueprints I have, rather like the Canberra I wonder Why?

The Canbera ofsett is due to the second crew member being next and lower in the fuselage . Two different factors, same stupid result. Isaac

If you plan to build just one, I'd vote for Su 15
Weird looking, indeed! Nice to know that a canopy is available. I was surprised to see that one engine is almost at the extreme rear. No tailpipe and no energy loss. The engines look like RR Nenes / Klimov VK-1, don't they? |
