I can hardly say that the “half cockpit” is a solid assembly. It can be twisted very easily and much care is needed to align the formers. As perfection is not of this world, it is advisable to cut the formers a bit inside the line. Otherwise, it will be harder, if not impossible, to close the skin. |

That cockpit is very familiar to me having built a few Halinski spitfires... the earlier version cockpit was oversized which caused great problems, I'm sure this has been corrected, I was able to cut a section out of the floor wider in the rear part to narrow and use the cockpit as was under the seat. Also cutting through the oval formers, was tricky but worked ok.

What an incredible detail but I'm afraid you might crush it when eventually installing the outside cockpit skins. Hopefully your precautions of trimming the formers will do. Somehow the Halinski cockpit area skins have a very, very tight fit. Good luck!

The Spitfire had a very tight cockpit. You may want to consider keeping the canopy open and the side pilot "door" down or open so you can see more of the beautiful interior.

I know I maybe overstepping here but I vote for an open cockpit door... but please build it as you wish.

@ Glen - At first sight, the Mk.Vb, MK.IXc and Mk.Ia have parts with the same shape. I didn't measure them to check if some correction was made @ Erik - well, this is a clear case where forcing the skin to close is not a good idea. The Brewster Buffalo, also from Halinski, is similar. @ Isaac / Falco - Regarding the canopy, you know what my taste is The open canopy would help make the interior visible but the plastic accessories are so transparent that the difference is very limited... The left panel is full of the detail we expect from Halinski. Frankly, I find it fun to assemble! |
