If you decide to make them from paper, consider coating them with putty, plaster, resin or epoxy, sand them smooth and then paint them. That is another approach that I took especially for petal noses like the LTV A-7 Corsair 2 model from GPM I built.

Today i worked on wheel pants skins, painted edges, give them round shape and glued connecting stripes
