P-38 Lightning, 1/33 scale, Mały Modelarz

Hello again!

I finally recovered after my cataract surgery(I have way better eyesight now), so I can start Lightning which you've choosed in my poll.
Old Maly Modelarz and also incredibly difficult in my opinion. Definitely not for beginners.
Below I got some first photos.

I'm glad to hear of your recovery. Very good start on the P-38, it's not easy at all.

Some MM published models were like that.I think this P-38 was the last one done this way. Some East German and Russian models had it way back in 1950s and 60s.I had Kranich Mig-15 UTI factory printed on metal coated paper-it had this too. It's actually a pretty cool idea IMHO.Works just like decals on plastic models.

As I recall when I tried doing this kit I got as far as fuselage and wings assembled.Engine gondolas were a nightmare but now I'm thinking I should have thrown out most of those formers supplied with kit as they only added to my confusion.Come to think of it, doing fuselage would have been a lot easier done the way Aaron does his models.

I'm wondering how Zenon will go thru this "obstacle course".Good luck.

When I did mine in 1/144th scale for a good friend now passed away...I left out the former parts and "winged" it on the assembly. Curving each part and butt edged the segments.

Found out on a white beta test and when I printed it on silver gift wrap it's VERY easy to get the front cowlings mixed up between left and right. Hence, do each of the boom/engines one at a time
Also for reality, don't forget that the propellers counter rotate.

You can search our site here for my post/build from several years ago.

Good to see you back in the driver's seat Zenon. Hope you can master this one- we don't seem to see many P-38's in paper/card.

Model can be really considered as an "obstacle course", but somehow I'll try to build it. Although it's not easy. Cardboard has terrible quality, it's from 1987(the last years of PRL).
As you can see on the pictures attached, I've pushed the progress further. MM didn't include the interior so I had to make it from scratch. Typy Broni i Uzbrojenia nr 127 was a big help in this case.

Stunning work. I have all of Murph's Lightnings. Can't wait until they come up on my ever changing build list!

I use to have some of those books on your bookcase Zenon and I still keep my TBiUs

I agree with bad quality of card in those days.It was hard to make airplanes with it but it worked sort of OK with tanks and other square shaped objects.Armored car WZ 28 and WZ 29 came out really well so did Renault FT17.
