Swiss Air Force display Axalp 2018
Nothing to do with paper modeling but I visited a very entertaining show by the Swiss Air Force on October 11th, at Axalp near lake Brienz. I have been told that quite a few times in recent years the display had been cancelled due to poor weather conditions but this years edition had all the luck in the world. It was great and I simply felt like sharing a few pictures with you all on this site.
The display was held for two days if I'm not mistaken and on the first day at exactly 2pm it kicked off with a loud sonic boom-boom, caused by a F18 Hornet. We visited on the second day and took the mail bus at lake level to the small village of Axalp at around 1500 meters above sea level. Then, we hiked another 750 height meters to one of the natural observation areas and waited for the show to begin. It felt like being on a pilgrimage with some 6000 others going up mountain and during the one and a half hours show, there was not a single moment to get bored. The aircraft seemingly came from every direction. F5's, F18's, Pilatus turbo props and helicopters kept the spectators busy, not in the least the spectacular ack-ack-ack from target shooting from all directions and water dumping on the same target boards to show "precision bombing" by the flying fire brigade. At some point one of the Hornets switched on its afterburner for a second and the echo of the roar between the mountains lasted for quite some more seconds. The show ended with the 12 F5's in Swiss national flag colours, chasing through the narrow valley and cutting across at eye level. Just a few pictures to show. Thanks to my brother who is a very enthusiastic amateur photographer. Hope you enjoy the pictures. Cheers, Erik |

Thank you for posting those pictures. I didn't know Swiss still have F-5s in service. Red turboprop-is that a Tucano? Is it used as a trainer or some other duties?
