Looks terrific!
You may have noticed that in the IWM image, the spinner is a light color. I have since found that the image of the three Spitfires taking off from Manston was taken in January 1941 (NOT "late summer 1940" as I erroneously wrote in my earlier post), by which time the Battle-of-Britain period black spinners had been repainted Sky. No. 92 Squadron moved from Biggin Hill to Manston in January 1941, returning to Biggin Hill in February (John Rawlings, Fighter Squadrons of the RAF and their Aircraft, London: MacDonald and Janes, 1969, revised 1976, p. 220). Incidentally, the Air Ministry ordered the port wing under surfaces of home-based day fighters to be repainted Night (matt black) in December 1940, and ordered the black to be removed in February (except for Whirlwinds, which retained the black port wing undersides for several months as a recognition feature). [Bowyer, p. 52] It is not clear from the image if X4561 had the Night port wing or not. As you have pointed out, the rapidly-changing Air Ministry orders and the hectic pace of operations led to a lot of variations - just like U.S. Navy markings in early 1942. In any event, you have modeled a very good-looking Spitfire that captures the iconic look of the period. Don |

Once again Don did a great research. Interesting informations.
Anyway even if it's historical, in my opinion, Spitfire without roundels on the underside is at least strange. Michael, now about the model. It came out really nice, but... I think you was too excited about the Ward that you forgot to color the edges in some places.

His new career as an author might also have him distracted from modelling too Kacper! Let's hope not!
Nice Spit fella. Wasn't even aware this one existed till you started building her.

Nor was I until it popped up on another thread here a few days back. It looked worthy of delaying my Ward for a few days so I went for it.

I know this is off Target , but I want to let everyone know that I am so proud of these discussions and greatly appreciated words of encouragement to one another.. I visit Other forums where they are not as encouraging to young impressionable minds
Who take the time to let us know of projects they want to tackle . We read them and immediately let them know of our wish to be here and guide them whatever the project they have in mind.. we don't shut them down or discourage , we let them know what the outcome we will be here to help... Thanks guys. It's awesome to know how we are with one another. Anyways enough with my rant . carry on Chris.... |

The one "No one ever listens to" did get banned but it took a great deal of effort on his part to make that happen.
