F-14 S&P 1/100 pt

Been awhile since scissors met paper, work life etc. but thought my 2nd favorite jet should be started on for the winter season, the F-14 tomcat.
I saw these things first in '75 when the flew cap for the Enterprise over the nam. weird looking, they seemed like ufos compared to the phantoms, a6s and such. Later, much much later, airfix released the wolfpack colored F-14 in 1/72 scale. I bought it, botched it, but came out ok and became my 2nd fav jet behind my revel 1/32 scale phantom.
Well our friend Bruno released a slew of these and the wolfpack became the first of a few to be worked on.
It is a complex design but after a few false starts is coming around. Bruno has not included launch rails so these were scratch built and will be released pending his blessings and a place to send them. Here are a few mark 2 pics of the rails, and the aft section, which will not be the final build...

Teeth and claws of the cat

Waiting for my printer to settle down and give good looking gull gray colors, instead of purple gray and green gray, I worked on the missiles. the cat was armed with a 20mm Vulcan, due to a hard lesson learned in SEA. fighters need a gun, for knife fights . also it was armed with aim9 sidewinders, mid range sparrows, and very long range phoenix missiles with a range of in excess of @ 100nmiles. These were coupled with the hughes radar and were designed to bring down slower bombers etc.
Bruno released these as a free download awhile ago and I upgraded the correct color bands and made mods to the wings etc to better approximate the 9L, Aim 7E and the Aim 54A. my assembly line with parts, nose cones first, then tube bodies then fins.
the 9Ls...

I don't mind that at all.
Some less things for me to model

Looking great, Ted.
Hope the cat comes out as good as its teeth.

tomcat part 2

well after a few attempts, I can finally say I finished one version of Bruno's tomcats. This is one of his most challenging kits to date. I started several times with the wolfpack/enterprise cats and came close but no cigar, or finished cat. it isn't that the parts are ill fitting, it just just a multi shaped aircraft. There is no actual starting place so this build will be all over the place. for the most part I usually started with the center fuselage section.
The center bottom is usually the first part I start at that consists of a coffin like piece that ends in the beaver tail common to the tomct family...

This build report is being done with pics from the multi attempts so background lighting color of pads and stages of completion will be "off". The topside center piece is one of the key pieces to making the cat. you score and fold what will be the wing and tail feather mounts and holds the engine housings. leave plenty of free room for the wings to swing but glue up the rest. I added the open topside vents, on the kit this is just printed on. the wing strakes are included in the kit and add great detail...

Next up is the engines housing assemblies. The intakes are simple folded outer piece and internal box like affairs. trim the inner to fit and match up with the knife edge lips. The after part is partially scored where it mates up with the intake and the after part is rolled into a deep "u" shape.
glue those assemblies together then attach the thin long 90 degree outer engine/ to fuselage inter part. I fixed some square wedges to keep the thin part straight. build up both and prepare to affix those parts to the center fuselage assembly...

exhaust cans. Nest up and recommended at this point is the exhaust cans. you should attach them to the assembled engine/center section before the wings and tail feather assemblies. the are installed from the bottom. you should make some attachment strips that are glued into the cans the pushed into the engine after sections. makes for a smoother fit...
