Really having a time with these landing gear "knuckles". Hoping the aerioplane will look OK when I am finished.

Looks good from here Michael. Like the ones in the old Tora Tora Tora movie.
The wheel "knuckles" are probably the hardest for the designers to replicate in paper since they are a spherical cast part on the real plane. The old maly one from the 70's uses a two part "dome"/petal shape. Fiddler's Green has a one piece deal like your dealing with, as does the Model Art P40M. I think the late Zio Prudenzati P40s are too. All depends on how well the part gets shaped to imitate the "ball" form. Yours looks good for 1/100 scale as intended by the designer. Jeff |

P-40’s at Pearl Harbor
What an amazing story of two young pilots on December 7th based at a place hardly anyone had ever heard of, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii! They were the best of friends and had been doing what young men do the night before, drinking and playing cards. When their skills were desperately needed they did not hesitate an instant. They jumped into two P-40’s sitting on a remote satellite field and shot down six Japanese planes between them. This is a S&P repaint by my good FB friend Jeff Orcutt. This is based on a very early S&P kit so it is a little rough. Jeff has done a great job adding details and getting the markings right. Trust me, individual exhaust stacks was a real challenge on this bird. I thought it was kinda cool to display this little guy with a FDR dime since we are approaching the anniversary of the “Day of Infamy” American Aviators Aloft at Pearl Harbor | HistoryNet https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kenneth_M._Taylor https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Welch_(pilot) https://www.history.com/news/heroes-...kenneth-taylor My full build album here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/RD8ZLR2f8GjTYWAn9

Great build in such a small scale. I like the idea of the internal wire in the wing to assure proper dihedral.

I do believe you may be onto something there Grasshopper. There are rumours of Vals, Kates and P-36's. Must be true. I saw it on the internet.

Excellent model, Michael. I look forward to seeing the rest of your Pearl Harbor collection as it develops.
I had hoped at one time to do a layout of Pearl Harbor-related aircraft for our annual showing of Tora! Tora! Tora! as part of the USAWC Strategic Arts Film Program. I managed to finish John Dell's model of B-17C Serial 40-2074 (the one that crash-landed during the attack). John Glessner reworked the FG P-40B and A6M-2, and I had some conversations with the late Jim Lansdale of J-AIRCRAFT concerning the markings of the Welch and Taylor aircraft. However, I have yet to build the P-40 successfully, and haven't done any paper modeling for several month. I hope you will forgive me posting an image of the P-40B and A6M-2 as of last May. The Zero still looks toy-like, but John did a great job on the P-40B. I doubt that I will complete the project, but meanwhile, I can enjoy your excellent models. Don |
