Thanks, Gary. That is a good translation, although the Anto characters (literally "peace/stability" and "east," as your wife pointed out) in this case stand for Antung (Andong) Province in Manchuria, whose citizens raised the money to buy several Ki-27s for the Manchukouan Air Force, this airplane being the fourth of them (as indicated by the last two characters: Yo-gō).

I didn't have any trouble with the inscription on the side of the airplane, but the text in the Japanese language book is more of a challenge. I will take the liberty of emailing you and your wife that text and ask for your help with it.

I start a formal course in Japanese at Dickinson College in two weeks and hope that it will eventually improve my ability to read my Japanese language books. I studied Japanese in college 60 years ago and when I was stationed at Yokota 1987-90, but foolishly failed to maintain my proficiency.

Don

In honor of my friend and Grasshopper I converted an old beat up Eflite WACO radio control biplane into a VF-6 Boeing F4B-4 with the squadron insignia that the dastardly Mr. Rata blatantly stole from the squadron.

If flies beautifully (even upside down!).

Great machine Michael! It's nice to see you're still in the hobby(even if it's RC).

Where have you been for so long?

Playing with toys keeps you young... (are still using your shotgun to get snagged planes out of trees?)

Wishing you only the best!

Great images. You DO manage to keep 'em flying, and I see that you DO still use a shotgun (sometimes) to get airplanes out of trees. Don

I haven't lost any in the trees for quite some time now. I am actually quite good at flying these little birds.

The repainting of worn out ones fulfils my lifelong modeling desires as well.

Good to be back and enjoying everyone's work.

Thank you Don, that adds a lot more context. I'll tell my wife, she doesn't have the historical context (other than the point in time as Japanese controlled NE China). You have our e-mail, so please contact us and we can help if possible. Although, you are probably better at Japanese than she is.

Thank you sir. Flying RC is such a kick. It is no where near as expensive as it was in the 1970's BC. The foam planes fly like a dream and you can repair them in just a few moments if you should have a "mishap". Planes form Horizon Hobbies even have features that make it almost fly itself.
