Correction to Post 222

The first paragraph of my post 222, above, should have read, "The 246 Hikō Sentai (Flying Combat Regiment), Headquarters (vice "2nd") Chutai (blue fuselage bands), bird was on homeland air defense duties June 1942-June 1943 at Kakogawa air field in southwestern Honshu on the coast of the Inland Sea."

It was either a typo or a mental glitch. The usual IJAAF chutai colors were: blue (headquarters), white (1st), red (2nd), and yellow (3rd, if there was one).

I'm still working my way through the text of entry on the 246th Sentai in the Famous Aircraft (Ketsusakuki) book on the Ki-27s, but have currently been trying to get up to speed on the late-war carrier air groups. And there is other stuff going on.

I hope my error hasn't affected your work, Garry.

Don

Not at all Don. Easy thing to amend a file that would have little or no subject information if it wasn't for your input.

I'm glad to see an ROC airplane, Garry. Do you know what unit it was from and where it operated?

The best info I have is : 'seized by the CNAF in the summer of 1945'. That quote from the painting and markings guide on the RS Models 1/72 plastic kit. Kora decals offer this one as well but are no more illuminating in subject detail.

Westland Lysander

Departure from things American and Japanese, here is my recolour of another of Bruno's older designs, his Westland Lysander.
The Lysander has always fascinated me; used as a light bomber, liaison plane, artillery spotter, light transport and cloak and dagger stuff with it's spy dropping into occupied territory. A true multi-role aircraft.
This one is in Turkish markings with two more planned- an RAF version plus one used by Finland.
If interested, you'll see them on Ecards at some point.

Great work on that Lysander! Interesting choice with these Turkish markings.

If you're looking for some more inspirations for Lysanders, the one in attachment would be amazing.

Nice Lysander. It is a fascinating plane.Lysanders were among many aircraft Turkish Army used in Turkish part of Kurdistan and for patrolling caucasus border.Strangely enough Soviet R-5 bomber/recon were often flown along .STOL capability was a big plus in that region .

Looking forward to Finnish Lysander

Kacper-Lysander was flown in India by both RAF and Indian Air Force. Also flown in Burma in really cool SEAC colors. One of the surviving Lysanders is still in India (with really lousy paint job on it).
