The outer wing panels fit perfectly! The wing joint covers also exist in the Halinski kit. In your case, they had absolutely no misery to cover

Main landing gear - 1
Hello PM's, thank you once more for your kind words! More and more the Hurricane takes shape....
Next is the main landing gear. The struts are pretty straight forward and consist of a 0.5mm steel wire core with paper tightly wrapped around it. The paper is too thick to properly wrap (a common problem....) and when rolling it as tight as possible it started to delaminate by itself, making it easier to completely separate the two layers. I wrapped both layers around the steel wire to obtain the strut diameter as intended. Worth the extra effort. The wheels consist of 6 layers of 1mm cardboard each, one more than Orlik's design but this would have resulted in a wheel too narrow, so I added one layer. Procedure as usual to sand the edges with my makeshift work bench. On my to do pile is also the Kartonowa Kolekcja Hurricane, for which I bought the plastic wheels (beautifully detailed) and by using these wheels as an example I could sand the cardboard wheels as precise as possible. Note that the KK wheels are 6.5mm wide, the main reason why I added another circle. Used diluted paper glue as coating for the tires and painted them rubber black (Tamiya). Furthermore I detailed the wheel covers - thanks to the inspirational KK plastic wheels - to make them look more realistic. UHU Hart is very useful here to glue the wheels to the struts as it dries very quickly. You may have noticed that the wheels are not perpendicular to the struts but that's intentional. All in all a lot of work! Cheers, Erik |

The old and always efficient drill system, I remember having used it a lot in naval modeling. Beautiful wheels, and perfect struts. Great job Erik

Main landing gear - 2
Thank you Sergio, I agree, sometimes using simple tools (and this hobby has everything in it to keep it simple) is all that it takes.
Forgot to include a few pictures of preparing the wheels last time, to start with. Positioning the struts and wheels is a bit of a challenge. I made some kind of a yoke to help positioning the wheels in the right orientation. Although the Orlik instructions do not mention such, the struts have to be placed vertically if you look from the front or rear side, but from the side view they need to be positioned with a 3 degrees forward angle. And as it appeared, that's exactly against the rim of the wheel bays, which made it easy to fixate the struts properly. With a bit of glue in between, it resulted in a more stable assembly. Then the remaining cross struts, which remarkably add up to the overall stability of the landing gear, as well as the covers, which form a link between strut and wing. I added a few more details myself after studying actual landing gear pictures and inspired by the more detailed landing gear of the Kartonowa Kolekcjia Hurricane. Also here, the paper to be rolled into a strut needs to be delaminated for a good end result. I do not really understand why these parts were not printed on the same thinner paper on which the other internal parts have been printed in the first place. Saves a bit of fiddling. Looking back on the construction of the landing gear, I was somewhat apprehensive at first, expecting a real challenge, but eventually it wasn't such a difficult job. Voila, the model stands on its own feet! Erik |
