US Navy Grumman Goose

It has been a long time since any real building for me, much less design work efforts, but a flying Goose is now seen around here as Addison Pemberton has completed his wonderful 5 year project, with much cooperation from the group of enthusiast friends he has at Felts Field, Spokane Valley.
Since I did the Goose 10 years ago or so for Fiddlers Green, I thought maybe I could do a version to represent Addison's Goose which rumbles overhead on its way to the larger lakes of Coeur d' Alene, and the very large Pend Oreille (has a submarine testing base!). However this has become a challenge for me as my skills are rusty but have pressed on...I think I'm about ready for a more official test build of the progress so far. Having started with an old plan -pre Fiddlers Green- it has become more of a complete redesign than a redraw, but I think is a better model for it, that is if the parts work...we'll see

Pictures of Addison's Goose which was an actual warbird, he acquired in as a static plane from San Diego, and has painstakingly restored this bird into a work of art. Cannot really estimate how much time /effort/ expense to do this, as I cannot even imagine it. However the end result is quite extraordinary and a dream come true for the Pemberton's who all fly and have flown this plane, Addison and Jay his son are both checked out in this plane, which Addison says flies nicer and lands better on the gear than he expected. He was practicing crosswind landing and says it holds it's course extremely well and can regulate the angle at landing with throttle to the big Pratt and Whitney's...

Beautiful and historic airplane, Glen. I'm glad you are doing this project. In he process, perhaps you will identify some improvements in your original model as published by FG.

Hi Don I think it is significantly improved. I redid the wing and attachment method to be more true to the plane and stronger. The forward deck and windows are much better, and a stronger fuselage as made a box -like a pen box- for the mid fuse. The gear have yet to be done, but several years ago I worked on that and am hoping I can adapt that..

Hi Herky that is really cool, there were some attractive color schemes, and Widgeons are a neat plane as well. Although small they have a seaplane look, like a Berijev or small Sikorsky.

It's good to see the details of the nose construction.

Just a note not clear in the above pics, the rear part of the nose is glued to a mark on the hull first, as even though it sounds odd the hull goes better that way
