Wow, What a beautiful model, silver paper and all! Thanks Papermate. It show the location of all but a few bits. I just realized that the version I am trying to build must be an early beta version, downloaded several years ago. It has some significant glitches in the artwork (though the fit is, as usual superb). Just got the latest version from Murph's with corrected graphics. Starting on it again.

Hello All. Thanks for all the thoughtful suggestions. Got a little stalled out this winter, but am now moving forward. Realized after building the fuselage that the version I started with was a sort of beta version of Jeff O's repaint I had downloaded several years ago. Went back and downloaded a fresh one, and the slipped trim lines were all fixed. So am now proceeding. As always with Aaron's models, the fit is terrific, and the pleasure of shaping the parts is great. Even without internal formers, the e complex shapes work beautifully. Here are some build pics up to now. Still a question or two about the nose gear, but will get to that later

First set of build pics. This is a big (1/76) Pan Am livery version. Talking to flight control already about the airspace this is going to need. The main fuselage cylinder is straightforward, The lower belly panels fit well (I added a folded tab at the join line to make the attachment easy). Note the jag in the paint job at the cockpit and after the upsweep of the blue line to the tail.

Plastic (oops, I mean) corrective surgery. Snipped off the nose and tail and replaced them with the parts from the current final model on Murph's site. I binged out to buy the whole pack of fresh B377s and K97s. Just snipped around the join line to remove, and then added an internal collar to put glue on, and added the new parts. Fit was as usual, spot on. Replacement looks pretty good now.

The wings are in two parts each, and take their shapes eaily around the inner spar. Then the motor nacelles are assembled as stand-alone units, and amazingly, once the slots in them for the wings are cut out, they just slide on to the wings up to indicated mark with a perfect fit. Great design work, Aaron - all this without internal ribs or formers. Seem to have hit a system limit in how many pix I can upload.

More shots of the nacelles forming and slipping on to the wings, and the shaping of the propellers. This is the fit the first time - the nacelles almost locked into place. And then on to the empennage.

The tail planes are simple, and also fit perfectly, without ribs or spars.
Now is the moment of truth - to use landing gear or not. Given that I have props, maybe I need to have the gear as well. Here is a snap of what I am looking at. Parts A, B, and C are all pretty standard, but D "retraction strut" has me stumped. Is it a cylinder with a two point grab at one end? To what is it attached at either end? Then there is the Sway Brace F. Not clear how that attaches to the assembly, though I think it slopes down and forward out of the wheel well at about 45 degrees. I see that E forms a horseshoe shape that goes around around the top of A. But not clear that the two ends of the horseshoe pointing back attach to anything. Then there are the shock elbows to the Southeast of part E. Not sure where those should go, but am guessing they fit above and below the shiny zone on B. And then there are the mystery blobs to the East of the words Nose Gear Sway Brace. I am thinking those are not part of the LG at all, but not sure where else to put them. Maybe they are for a different version of the aircraft. And finally there is some kind of three part red doohickey over to the East just above the Wheel wells. I am thinking some kind of red blinker light, but not clear how to assemble or where to put it. Thoughts and wisdom most welcome.
