Cool Yak-19 MaksArt kit

On the heals of building the Yak 30 model I purchased ( under the YG model name ) which is still in progress,
Here is that build log:
Yakovlev Yak 30-MaksArt

I decided to build two more Yak models from MaksArt ( the designer of the kits ). So here is the Yak-19 and it will be followed up by a Yak 25 ( first designation ).

The difference is that both Yak 19 and 25 are being built while I am on the road in Florida over the 3 weeks I am here. So I can only do the simple parts ( no canopies or landing gears....

So I brought some tools for this work which will do the job
Yak-19 MaksArt kit-tools.jpg

It feels a bit like my Hotel build while I was in Montreal a few years back.
Me P.1106R Eric Son 1/48- my travel build
Zeppelin Rammer- another hotel build

I built 12 models back then in the hotel.

I make sure that all of my hotel builds are relatively small ( even in 1/33 scale ) . So they all fit in a shoe box size plastic container. So if I fly, they can easily fit in my hand luggage. Or in this case, I am driving, so it fits well in in the car.

However, my last hotel build in Canada, I gave away all 12 models to friends.

Cool My venue

As it happens, I am staying in a rented apartment on a golf course in the Florida pan handle. However, I do not play golf. So in addition to building models, I fly some of my small radio controlled drones and helicopter. I also managed a side trip to the US Naval aviation museum in Pensacola . I almost got together with Kevin ( aka Knife ), but our schedule did not work out this time, but I will be back next year.

The view from the apartment

and the Naval museum

I will post pictures separately from this great museum.

Cool Let's build- The kit

This model of the Yak 19 is in 1/33 scale and is basically very similar to the Yak 25 and 30 design. Same layout of parts and instruction. So if you build one you can repeat the process that produces variation of the plane.

The Yak-19 was a first generation version jet designed for the installation of a jet engine located in the center fuselage in back of the pilot ( unlike the Yak 15,17, 21 which were basically propeller aircraft with a jet engine in the nose ).

The layout was still straight wings and tail. However the Yak 25 had swept back tail and the Yak 30 swept the wings as well. As it turned out this design lose to the Mig 15 design which was a bit larger and more capable plane.

The kit is rendered very simply and there is no color variation. The original planes were bare metal. The kit is light grey. My only comment is that the numbers and national stars did not need to appear worn out since these were experimental prototypes and are so plain, that you need clear bold colors.

The instructions are computer generated and very clear.

This is a good kit for builders having some experience with model planes. However, it is relatively simple to build

Exclamation Fuselage

The fuselage sections are all round and that makes it easy.
Yak-19 MaksArt kit-img_8771.jpg

The parts are all perfectly fitting, however, there are no axial glue tabs on any parts.

However, that is a easy fix. So add your own
also, notice the worn out color affect on the red star. My preference is a bright colored red star.

Here are the sub parts.

Nice to see more MaksArt kits being built. I envy your ability to build on the road.

Interesting main landing gear configuration! It looks like the wheels, when retracted, will be sloped so that the main gear compartment, inside the fuselage, can be shallower.

The landing gear struts are bent to conform to both the wing bottom and the fuselage since the wheels are angled inside the fuselage bay. Take a look at the Yak 23 Flora and it will be even more pronounced.

Aft fuselage

I started at the back going to the center.

Here is the engine exhaust duct and sections forward
Yak-19 MaksArt kit-img_8784.jpgYak-19 MaksArt kit-img_8786.jpg

Here is the center section . The inner support structure is very important for assembly, fit and later on the wing support, so do not delete it. Insert it to the center section, but do not glue it. It must be allowed to float for now.
