Found this which mentions that the wingtip jet engines were light, but it doesn't say anything about the rocket engine's weight; S.N.C.A.S.O SO-9000 Trident and SO-9050 Trident II | Let Let Let - Warplanes

On each wing tip a light jet engine was fitted. Aerodynamically this was a quite favourable position, but constructively the wing had to be exceptionally strong to withstand the forces during flight. In particular torsion and flexibility problems had to be solved.

Hi All,

And hi, ricleite. Wonderful job on your Trident. I always like to see one-off, experimental aircraft of the 1950s in model form. Beautiful work.

The real reason I'm writing is to compliment you on your photography. Well composed, instructive and razor sharp photos help the reader to more fully understand the modeler's vision and techniques. I especially like the rollout pictures from yesterday's post. The shimmering reflection of the Trident in the table top give the futuristic plane an ethereal look. Excellent pictures.

Again, congratulations on a model well-built.

Score and fold,

Thumb Dog

Thanks again

Having the jet engines at the wing tips doesn't help in an "engine out" situation, as Isaac pointed out. But it helps to distribute the weight across the span and reduce flexural stresses. Regarding torsion, it may well be more complex and the thin wing section surely complicates...

@ Thumb Dog - glad you like the pictures. I try to make them informative

I am ready to build this model (regular build first and then a repainted version ).

Did you know that the Answer model kit is actually the SNCASO 9050 and not the 9000 as stated on the kit cover page? Some differences exist , the most visible is that the 9050 landing gear is much taller to accommodate the rocket under the fuselage.

I will build a repainted version of this model as well.
