Exclamation Landing gear bay lining

Here is the main landing gear bay after the lining is inserted. Same technique as used in the Yak 19 and Yak 30 models.

Insert the lining folded with light glue on the mating surfaces in the fuselage and wing, unfold and glue in place.

Cool Both Florida builds compared

Here are the pictures of both the Yak 19 and Yak 25 models that I built while on the road in Florida last month. So far I have not built them further since I got home, but will do so soon.

These pictures show how similar both planes are and points the main differences in the tail.

Yak-25 (first gen) MaksArt in 1/33-img_9010.jpgYak-25 (first gen) MaksArt in 1/33-img_9011.jpg

I plan to build the wheels, landing gears and canopies all at the same time for all 3 Yaks in progress.

I will post this same set of photos with the Yak 19 so the progress is shown in both threads

Cool Going home and packing up the models

Here is a picture of my inspirational view at the place I stayed. Very quiet place ( no , I did not play golf ! )
Yak-25 (first gen) MaksArt in 1/33-img_9012.jpg

and I packed up both models and my supplies in one clear plastic bin for the drive home.
Yak-25 (first gen) MaksArt in 1/33-img_9016.jpgYak-25 (first gen) MaksArt in 1/33-img_9017.jpg

It was nice to build while on the road .

Exclamation Wheels

The wheels were made for all 3 Yak's I am building and here are the steps as shown in my Yak 30 thread
http://www.papermodelers.com/forum/667777-post38.html

I used a circle cutter on card stock and cut out multiple circles
Yak-25 (first gen) MaksArt in 1/33-img_9032.jpg

Stack the disks to width and glue to each other.
Yak-25 (first gen) MaksArt in 1/33-img_9033.jpg

Drill a hole in the center, mount on my mini lathe and using sanding sticks, sand the wheels to shape.
Yak-25 (first gen) MaksArt in 1/33-img_9037.jpg

ready for painting by inserting a squashed tooth pick to be used as a spindle and then paint them all
Yak-25 (first gen) MaksArt in 1/33-img_9039.jpgYak-25 (first gen) MaksArt in 1/33-img_9041.jpgYak-25 (first gen) MaksArt in 1/33-img_9043.jpg

glue the hubs in place.
Yak-25 (first gen) MaksArt in 1/33-img_9046.jpg

A note:
this is my preferred method of making wheels, and there are others

Cool Landing gear

The struts of the Yak 25 landing gear is the same as the Yak 30, so I made my own as apposed to the kit's parts which were a bit too complicated for the task.

Here they are initially with the wheels attached
Yak-25 (first gen) MaksArt in 1/33-img_9076.jpg

adjust to length as needed and measure the ground to wingtip distance. Glue in place using Superglue
Yak-25 (first gen) MaksArt in 1/33-img_9077.jpgYak-25 (first gen) MaksArt in 1/33-img_9079.jpg

add more finishing touches
Yak-25 (first gen) MaksArt in 1/33-img_9082.jpg

Nose gear
Yak-25 (first gen) MaksArt in 1/33-img_9084.jpg

and glued in place
Yak-25 (first gen) MaksArt in 1/33-img_9085.jpg

all 3 gears are on
Yak-25 (first gen) MaksArt in 1/33-img_9092.jpg

add the doors ( I still have to install the two belly doors )
Yak-25 (first gen) MaksArt in 1/33-img_9093.jpgYak-25 (first gen) MaksArt in 1/33-img_9094.jpgYak-25 (first gen) MaksArt in 1/33-img_9096.jpg

and the plane is on its gear now.

Canopy making- part 1

Here is a duplicate posting of the canopy making process I used for all 3 Yak planes I am building ( Yak 19, 25 and 30 ). All will have a vacuformed canopy that use the same blank made of plaster of Paris.

Here is that full post

and the finished blank here:
