Peter Zorn's Ford Trimotor Lao Che version (the remaster by Ruben)
Well, at long last I finally got up the nerve to attempt this model. It goes together very well, and has many different versions for the individual builder. At 1/33 this is a very large kit with a wingspan of just over 28 inches, which makes it a little hard to handle at times.
I did some things a little differently than the instructions suggested. For one I attached the fuselage windows with scotch tape, because it was easy and there is lots of room. Also, I used a glue stick to attach the inside skin to the outside skin (instead of double sided tape). I glued the top halves of the front section of the fuselage together before joining with the rear section. I had a little trouble with the rear of the fuselage joining the front section, the graphic didn't line up for the stripe by the door though the opposite side and top seams lined up properly, I still haven't figured that one out. The rear fuselage section also wasn't as wide as the front section though I was very careful about cutting the parts out. I also had some problems with the wingtips. I still haven't figured out how to pull thread tightly to keep it straight, lol. The parts that I thought were going to be difficult went together quite easily, Those being the front of plane and glazing on the cockpit. Anyhoo, this is what I came up with. Mike |

You did a terrific job on this model and the little details of cargo.
Looks like it's parked on the tarmac at Nang Tao airport. Don |

What a beautiful build! You did it great in this kit.
I've been waiting to see someone building this Lao Che version with the full interior accessories. They add a lot to the plane. And all of them were designed by Mr. Zorn himself exclusively for this version. What a pretty sight. All other internal and external details were nicely executed. Thanks a lot for your report and for sharing the photos. I'm really happy to see them. And I'm sure Peter Zorn would have been very happy too to see another incarnation of his kit to come to life. Regards,

Being a big fan of all the Indiana Jones movies I'm so glad to this particular Ford modelled. Great job and absolute thumbs up for giving the interior the attention it deserves.

Very nice work, and the detail inside the model is impressive.

Great kit. The interior is really nice as well and adds greatly to the kit.
For the main parts Mike, what thickness of paper did you use? I see no suggestions for paper thickness (apart from the few 75grm parts) in the kit...

Thanks everyone for the nice comments, especially the insight that Mr. Zorn designed the interior exclusively for this model.
I used 67lb card stock for the build (I use it for everything, lol). Though I do believe that the wings could use some extra lamination on the long flat surfaces because they seem a little delicate in the outer sections. Also, the outer sections of the wings are an overlapping two piece construction that fits together very nicely and when completed the seam is almost invisible. The biggest problem with the wing is that it is so large it makes maneuvering the model around to add other parts difficult, I was constantly bumping it into things (getting a chance to use all the special words I learned in the Army). Well gosh darn it, that is a dang shame about them wings.
Looks like a very good result overall. I looked at the file and saw that there is a Papermodelers livery offered. I also have the large printed book.
