Petal nose on one I made is done entirely with petals.Because it's so large it was actually pretty easy. One in your kit looks harder.

Btw-is this Yak the last pure gun equipped bomber interceptor Russians had?i'm not sure if Mig-19 was an interceptor from the start, rocked equipped Mig-17 PM and Mig-19PM definitely were but F models I think were frontline fighters.
I personally hate petal design and rarely use it. So yes, i will modify for this model especially because it is large and prominent

And yes, the Mig 19 was an interceptor. Early models were only gun equipped. Only the PM versions carried 4 radar guided missiles which were useless.

I see the problem on the nose: the petals extend from a very short section that will be very fragile. It would be better if they extended from the rear part, which also has an odd design...
So, almost two kits for the price of one. Not bad

Buy one booklet, build one and give the other to a friend to build. Then compare.

Regardless of the petal design, they are all bad in my opinion. Cones and cylinders are at least the better looking option if you want to stay in paper

Hello Isaac,

Will be very interested in this model. Have a Geli model (not build yet) with shiny metal finish, but I think that the GPM is more detailed.

I always had a hard time with shiny metal models. I really thought they looked artificial.

If you really want to build the Geli model, consider scanning it and printing using ink jet printer.

Thanks Isaac,

Don't think that in the USSR Air Force, the aircraft were bare shiny metal. I have seen it in some privately owned aircraft, but you need to polish them all the time.

Question Petal nose- try 1

Since the nose of the aircraft is rounded all around, the designer chose a petal design for the nose.

Since I am not a fan of this method, I decided to make a test copy and build it to see how it looks before I sacrifice the kit parts.

Here is a picture ( on the left ) of the actual nose and the kit parts ( on the right )

parts are cut and ready to assemble

and the nose section being assembled

the final test nose section done.

For the paper purist, this is the final product. As for me, this will not do!

more soon......

So are you thinking fill/sand, vac forming, or solid wood for the nose?

Red face Vacuform nose- Take 1, the mold

I decided to vacuform a whole new nose section that will emulate the real RADOM on the aircraft. It will attach to the cylindrical section that also houses the cockpit.

However, I need to make a plug first.

My first option is to make a plug like I do for my canopies and use a plaster of Paris for the material.
Yak-25M ( twin engine jet ) GPM #546-img_9286.jpg

So....

I used the test piece and filled it with the plaster mix.
Yak-25M ( twin engine jet ) GPM #546-img_9287.jpg

oops, the paper could not handle the wet plaster because I did not re enforce the paper part and the whole thing collapsed.
Yak-25M ( twin engine jet ) GPM #546-img_9289.jpg

Oh, well, that was a good try.

I will try something else to make the plug.

Info soon
