Cool Horizontal fins and elevators

The horizontal stabilizer is simple, but has separate control surface which I like allot.

Here are the parts
Yak-25M ( twin engine jet ) GPM #546-img_9422.jpg

sub assemblies
Yak-25M ( twin engine jet ) GPM #546-img_9423.jpgYak-25M ( twin engine jet ) GPM #546-img_9424.jpg

and the internal simple structure.
Yak-25M ( twin engine jet ) GPM #546-img_9440.jpg

Fins are glued on.

and now add the rudders and the elevators ( slight deflection )

Cool Status pics

Here is the model so far

I took the model to our IPMS local club meeting today. I also brought the 1/72 scale plastic model I built years ago. I will post pics of both later on as well.

Exclamation Wing structure

Here are the parts
Yak-25M ( twin engine jet ) GPM #546-img_9456.jpg

assemble one side only. The plan is to insert the three spars thru the fuselage and then assemble the other side.
Yak-25M ( twin engine jet ) GPM #546-img_9457.jpgYak-25M ( twin engine jet ) GPM #546-img_9458.jpg

Insert thru fuselage
Yak-25M ( twin engine jet ) GPM #546-img_9459.jpg

Yeh, right !!!!!!!!!! Mission impossible. The spars could not be aligned properly and finally bent and broke pieces ( after all it is flimsy card and not metal or wood ).
Yak-25M ( twin engine jet ) GPM #546-img_9460.jpg

Plan B is to save the structure, but add three wood dowels as thru members in the fuselage ( I used super glue for that task ).
Yak-25M ( twin engine jet ) GPM #546-img_9461.jpgYak-25M ( twin engine jet ) GPM #546-img_9462.jpg

insert the dowels thru
Yak-25M ( twin engine jet ) GPM #546-img_9463.jpgYak-25M ( twin engine jet ) GPM #546-img_9464.jpg

now attach the other wing structure
Yak-25M ( twin engine jet ) GPM #546-img_9465.jpg

and assembled view.
Yak-25M ( twin engine jet ) GPM #546-img_9471.jpg

lastly, I added some smoothing strip on the parts.

Exclamation Wings

The wings are simple construction. There is an inner section, outer section and separate ailerons with their housings.

I have no idea why the designer separate the wing sections as there is no transition nor is it needed to fit on one page. Anyhow....

The parts
Yak-25M ( twin engine jet ) GPM #546-img_9466.jpg

folded over the leading edge
Yak-25M ( twin engine jet ) GPM #546-img_9467.jpg

add a clear plastic lens for the landing lights
Yak-25M ( twin engine jet ) GPM #546-img_9468.jpg

here is the partial wing assembly
Yak-25M ( twin engine jet ) GPM #546-img_9469.jpgYak-25M ( twin engine jet ) GPM #546-img_9470.jpg

dry fit to fuselage
Yak-25M ( twin engine jet ) GPM #546-img_9472.jpg

here is the aileron
Yak-25M ( twin engine jet ) GPM #546-img_9476.jpg

wing tip has a partial printing. It will show up a little inside the wing tip landing gear bays.
Yak-25M ( twin engine jet ) GPM #546-img_9479.jpg

dry fit again.
Yak-25M ( twin engine jet ) GPM #546-img_9482.jpg

wings are now glued on. Not my best fit though. I should have sanded the inner structure smoother and then added the inner strips to make sure it is smooth. ( there are no wing fillets in this model ).

Cool Status pics- wings on

Now that our paper exhibition in Dayton is over,
Dayton Ohio 2019 paper get together

I can post a few pictures of the Yak with the wings attached.

Yak-25M ( twin engine jet ) GPM #546-img_9490.jpgYak-25M ( twin engine jet ) GPM #546-img_9493.jpgYak-25M ( twin engine jet ) GPM #546-img_9494.jpgYak-25M ( twin engine jet ) GPM #546-img_9495.jpgYak-25M ( twin engine jet ) GPM #546-img_9496.jpg

Yak-25M ( twin engine jet ) GPM #546-img_9497.jpg
The lower left attachment fit is not the best, however, once the engine nacelle is on, it will not be seen.

I do have a few more distractions before I continue this build, so stay tuned.

Great work on the wings Isaac. They looked quite difficult with those spars. You did a very nice recovery job.

Exclamation Guns

The gun fairings are best installed now before the engines go on for ease of assembly and access.

Yak-25M ( twin engine jet ) GPM #546-img_9498.jpg
I used a small diameter dowel glued to the fuselage to position and give it shape.

Red face Errata - Nose modification needed

I need to modify the nose RADOM to more correctly represent the actual plane. Thanks to eagle eyed modeler that brought it to my attention ( Yoav ).
Yak-25M ( twin engine jet ) GPM #546-024287.jpg the change is minor, but visible to those that know.

Here is a side by side next to my 1/72 scale model in plastic of the same plane
Yak-25M ( twin engine jet ) GPM #546-img_6436.jpg

and a side view schematic.
Yak-25M ( twin engine jet ) GPM #546-img_6464.jpg

The corrective measure is for me to modify the vacuform plug and make a new nose...
Yak-25M ( twin engine jet ) GPM #546-img_9298.jpg

however, that will have to wait as I am trying to salvage the existing plug.

I will continue the model construction in the meantime.

Isaac,

I'm obviously not an eagle eyed modeler, because I thought that you did a great job on the nose.

Gary

I did do a great job on the nose. However, the side view shape needs modification. Slight one though to be correct. I can leave it as is or improve it later on.
