Yak-25M ( twin engine jet ) GPM #546
Here is my next model build and a continuation of the Yakovlev jet designs.
This one was the recently released model ( Dec 2018 ) by GPM in 1/33 scale. So as not to confuse folks, I did build the Yak-25 first use of this designation. Yak-25 (first gen) MaksArt in 1/33 However, again it is important to note that the Soviets were notorious in recycling the design numbers and this one is completely different than the first Yak-25 which was designed in the late 1940's. This is the twin engine aircraft. The kit and I got the laser frames and a vacuformed canopy. You can get all 3 as a set from GPM.pl Of interest is that the booklet contains two kits. One version is printed in matt finish ( which I prefer ) and the other one is printed on shiny silver finish. Your choice to build. matt finish and shiny finish The printing is crisp and beautiful. I have yet to see anyone build it and post their progress on any forum, so if you see one, please share the link. Isaac

Few years ago I did slightly spruced up version of 1960 published MON model of this Yak-25M.To my surprise it was excellent model ,mind you it had only about 40 parts .
I'll be watching this build. There is something cool about those old jets and seeing model of one come together is always interesting. |

One thing is for sure, the GPM kit has much more detail and many parts....( maybe too many like in the landing gear bay ). Isaac

Fine choice, Isaac This kit is on my "possible next shop visit list".
I was surprised to know that the kit includes both smatt and silver versions! Does it provide parts for two complete planes or "just" an alternative for the skin parts? |

The main issue I have with this kit is that stupid petal design on the nose. It just looks like crap.
However..... I have a solution which I will share next week when I return home. Paper purist will probably not do it! Isaac

That nose on original was probably some kind of fiberglass/plastic idem made on the mold,I'm sure making one same way for model will be fine.
Petal nose on one I made is done entirely with petals.Because it's so large it was actually pretty easy. One in your kit looks harder. Btw-is this Yak the last pure gun equipped bomber interceptor Russians had?i'm not sure if Mig-19 was an interceptor from the start, rocked equipped Mig-17 PM and Mig-19PM definitely were but F models I think were frontline fighters. |
