Vought SB2U Vindicator - 1/33 - Kartonowa

The Vought Vindicator may seem an odd choice but the fact is that I like colorful aircraft and American subjects of this period are often in this category. The aircraft has fine lines and is not too big.
This is the only kit I have bought so far from Kartonowa. The first impression is good. Everything seems to be at the correct place, there are good instruction diagrams, general views of the aircraft, some pictures of real planes and of a completed model as well. In total, the kit has 592 parts, not counting the “doubled” parts with different markings.

Very nice kit. Looks like a lot of details.

Looks like a high quality kit of a historic and good-looking aircraft.

I look forward to seeing you work your magic on this one.

The designer is Paweł Mistewicz, which would be a guarantee for a high-quality model. I know his work from several models of smaller aircraft, such as the Sopwith Pup & Camel, the Piper Cub, and others. All of them of sound design and attention to a reasonable amount of detail.

For reference, there is one build at the Konradus forum, and one at the German Kartonbau.

Good luck with this fine model! - L.

David Sakrison also did a fine job with this kit and reported in our Forum: Vought SB2U Vindicator - 1/33 Scale

No build thread, but excellent images and notes on David's methods.

Alright Ricardo, let's roll. Kartonowa Kolekcja is a great choice for a next model. Resembles the Dauntless somewhat I would say. Good luck with this one!

Welcome aboard, friends

@ Leif - thanks for the links. They will surely be useful. The Kartonbau model has some fine add-ons. I'll stick to the "just paper" version

I started with a repetitive assembly – the engine – and it became clear that the paper quality is not to my taste. It is rather fragile. Rolling and unrolling, even with a reasonable radius, makes it wrinkle or delaminate. Very annoying and quite similar to the paper HobbyModel uses. An extra bit of care and patience will be needed.

In spite of the paper problems, your crankcase and cylinders look very good, indeed.
