Chance-Vought O2U-3 Colors
Hi all! I need your help to discern the colors of this black and white photograph to apply it in a model. This photo is from the Mexican Air Force. The upper part of the wings I do not know if it is yellow. There is a program that tells you what colors they are and you apply it in CMYK in Photoshop, but I can not find it anymore. Maybe Don Boose with his knowledge of the Aviation of that time can help me. Any help will be welcome. Regards,Tony. |

Sorry, Tony, but I have not been able to find out the upper wing color of the O2U-2M Corsairs purchased by Mexico or the Mexican-built Corsarios Azcárate O2U-4A. It is possible that there is a color illustration of this aircraft hidden away in my back issues of Air Enthusiast or other publication that I have acquired over the years, but I haven't found it.
It seems very likely to me that the upper wing was indeed painted yellow, but I do not have any evidence one way or the other. I did come across these two sites with additional images (but you probably came across them yourself in your search): https://www.armedconflicts.com/Vough...carate-t204693 Con las alas en mi pecho: LOS CORSARIOS MEXICANOS Alamy photo service has a number of images, such as this one: https://www.alamy.com/stock-photo-vo...-85903461.html If you Google Alamy Mexican O2U, you will find several good images. None in color, alas. Good luck with your search. Don |

I bet it was yellow.Like all other governments at the time I'm sure Mexico opted for lowest possible price for those.Factory would use whatever paints they had in abundance, most lieky yellow/silver dope combination.
Mind you that color would fade a bit and maybe change hue in hot and constantly sunny weather there.Yellow painted agro Soviet planes changed changed in time from faint yellow egg like to near pumpkin orange. |

I found a link to an online colorizer.
https://demos.algorithmia.com/colorize-photos/ It gave the attached result which is not a lot of help though. It would probably be a good assumption that the wings were yellow on top. Curt |
