The major problem is made a curvature in kneel, I believe more separate pieces in the kneel solve the problem, but the idea is not bad, for working is necessary a slow process of gluing...

Small update...
In this week my time to working in S40 is few but I building the fuselage dorsal carenage, for reinforce and made a precise forming of this piece I use a "soul" of 5mm heavy cardboard, for cut the stripe I use the fillet tool, a local home made toll selling by friend. For gluing without deformation I use Glue Stick... In this weekend I start the wing... |

Thanks for the progress report.
I think that odd dorsal spine was the pathway for the throttle linkages and control cables from the cockpit up the the wing and motors. A sturdy strut will take off vertically from it that seems to have no other reason to exist but to continue that pathway up to the wing. Sikorsky built them to be big, reliable and easy to service.

S-40 Wing
In Brazil yesterday was a religious holiday, Corpus Christi day, it was a good time to finalize another important set in the S40: The wing.
The construction of the wing requires some care, the first is to ensure that the internal structure is well aligned to prevent warping. It is glued to the wing with UHU universal adhesive tape at first only the underside of the wing on the bar. For made wing curvature (or aerofoil) I use paper fasteners of various sizes, which are also used in conjunction with rulers and toothpicks to keep the glue evenly, always trying to prevent the wing from warping. The construction of the wing tip was observed, maintaining the curvature of the airfoil and rounding the ends with bending tools, one of the ends of the seam was attached underneath with adhesive tape. The union of all segments was done carefully using UHU glue, a suggestion I give to Aaron in this case is to move the glue tabs to the central section of the wing, it would greatly facilitate the gluing work, because on the underside I had to remove the tabs next to the structure bar, this measure is always to prevent possible twists and applies on any scale. The wing has got a light grip with all the measures taken, in this case there is solution using mechanical pressure with pressure clamps that are fixed with a ruler ... After standing 24 hours fixed the welding has been solved, we can move on to the next step, in one of the photos all the tools and materials I used to glue the wing. The next steps is made floaters, engine nacelles and tail... |
