1/33 P-51B Mustang "Margie Maru", 354th Fighter Group

Just started new model. It's a P-51B Mustang "Margie Maru" in 1/33, Dave Winfield's kit. First impressions are very positive, I especially like the textures and the fact that this model is suitable for modelers at almost every level of skill. However, I still think that this Mustang would not be a good choice for those who're beginners in 1/33 scale aircraft.
My plane will be built in the "most detailed" version, so with the interior, landing gear, etc. And probably I'll also add some of my little scratch details here and there.

I've got some first photos in the attachments.
About more technical side of this P-51, I'll talk in the next reports.

Good start. I always like to see Dave's models being built.

Excellent point.

This model has some quirks...I have built a few of these Mustangs,
and there are a few areas that can be tricky...sometimes you get it right, sometimes you don't.

Warning on the Landing Gear Bay modification: this installation is not without its difficulties.
The model wasn't originally designed for this detail, so it is far from perfect.

I look forward to seeing how well you fair with it!

I built Dave's Hun Hunter, which was also one of the older kits. It went together quite well but you need to pay attention when assembling the wheel wells (which look quite nice when finished). If I remember correctly I had to do some modification on the exterior gear doors but it was nothing major. There is also a build thread on these models somewhere which can give you a hint one what to do. Here is a link to what I did.

It's starting off to be another great model. Nice work, Zenon.

Huge photo report today.
Mustang still needs some work but I'm pretty close to the end.
I kept in mind all your warnings and did not encounter any problems.
To me this P-51 is a really great design and very enjoyable model. What I also like in it is the lack of "white fields", so the model doesn't need any painting in some places and just look way better.

It's also worth to point out that this time I printed this one on a better cardboard. My earlier Dave's model, AT-6 Texan was printed on a bit too thick cardboard what caused some flaws in the wings area. This time everything's ok, thanks to better cardboard.

Credit to Marek's original design...one of Marek's earliest 1/50 scale designs...it had its quirks.
My kit is based on one of those (from my repainting days) but with quite a few changes.
Marek has much improved his own Mustang kits, and his current stuff is so far ahead of any B/C models I sell.

I'd like to think I have tinkered and tweaked things enough to make some improvements.
And you seemed to have conquered most of the tricky areas.

The Landing Gear bays look good, however it looks like you have yet to install the small wing inserts.
I've never assembled the wings without these inserts in place...you may find it difficult to do at this point.
But then again, you are obviously skilled at this.

I can't remember what Wing Fairings your kit has...I hope it has the newer design.

After this, maybe you'd like to try another of my Mustangs? (I have a few that need to be built!)
